MFEE MFEE generates funding and community support to enhance the educational experience for all of Montclair’s public school students.

The Montclair Fund for Educational Excellence congratulates Quinn Petrie-Shelton, a graduate of Glenfield Middle School and the 2026 recipient of the Jackson Lightfoot Whitsett Memorial Fund Award.

Petrie-Shelton was selected for this honor by Glenfield staff and received a $100 cash award for embodying the spirit of Jackson Lightfoot Whitsett, for whom the award is named.

Lightfoot Whitsett graduated from Glenfield, was active in dance and cheerleading at Montclair High School, and inspired others to unapologetically celebrate their identity. Lightfoot Whitsett co-founded the Glenfield GSA. The Memorial Fund was established in 2023 to honor his life and legacy.

MFEE raises money through the JLWMF with the goal of supporting and creating safe spaces for LGBTQ+ youth across the Montclair Public Schools. Learn more: MFEE.org/JLWMF. ✨

This is how one parent began their Weston Award nomination letter for Jessica Little, a third grade teacher at Charles H. Bullock Elementary School.

“If I could create the most magical, amazing teacher in my head, it would be Ms. Little. She is the embodiment of a phenomenal elementary school teacher—she’s in control of her classroom, she’s silly (but stern when needed), she engages students through play and structured learning, and she makes every day feel new and exciting.”

For her creativity, high expectations, compassion, and ability to spark academic growth and a genuine love of learning, the Montclair community is proud to call Ms. Little an inspired teacher.

MFEE is accepting grant applications from Montclair Public Schools teachers for the 2026-27 school year! Each year, MFEE awards between $50,000 - $75,000 in grants to educators in four categories:

*Educational Excellence Grants,
*Greenwald Professional Development Grants,
* Social-Emotional Learning Grants, and
* IdeaLab Grants.

Funding for educator grants is made possible through generous donations from our community and events such as MFEE’s annual “Toast to the Teachers.” Support Montclair teachers by making a gift at MFEE.org/donate!

It's back-to-school week! Our interns and staff have been busy putting together welcome gifts for every kindergarten student in the district. This MFEE tradition of welcoming some of our youngest learners is one of our favorites.
