Lamp for Haiti

The Lamp operates a high quality, cost-effective health center in the slum of Cite Soleil, Haiti. The Lamp is a 501(c)3 nonprofit, founded in 2006.

Your donations may be tax deductible! The Lamp operates a primary and urgent health care center in the heart of the Cite Soleil slum, Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Special programs include a women's health clinic, a child nutrition program, x-ray facilities, and school sponsorship. Patients are asked to pay 10HTG (25 cents) per consultation, and all lab work, medicine and other services are provided free of charge. The Lamp is an oasis of care in an extremely harsh environment.

Thank you to everyone who came out in support of the 5th Annual Lamp for Haiti 5K Run/Walk. It was a cold morning, but it was a good time! We are grateful to all of our volunteers, including Montclair High School students and members of the local community, whose support was invaluable. We also thank Rutgers Cancer Institute and the Partnership for Maternal Child Health for their participation and for sharing important information. Thanks also go to DJ Chinua Unites for providing great music throughout the morning.

Finally, we would like to thank everyone who ran, walked, or supported the participants. We are pleased to share a selection of photos from the day and invite you to visit our website tomorrow for a complete gallery of event pictures.

There is still opportunity to register for the Lamp for Haiti 5th Annual 5K Run/Walk, which takes place this Sunday, May 3, at Branch Brook Park in Newark, NJ. Online registration closes on Saturday, May 2; however, participants may also register in person on the day of the event beginning at 7:00 AM.

Bibs and running bags are available for pick-up on Saturday, May 2, between 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM at St. James' Episcopal Church, located at 581 Valley Road, Montclair, NJ. In-person registration will also be available during this time.

There is still time to register for the Lamp for Haiti 5th Annual 5K Run/Walk. The event will take place on Sunday, May 3 at Branch Brook Park in Newark, NJ. The USATF-sanctioned course features a relatively flat out-and-back route, beginning and concluding at the Cherry Blossom Welcome Center. The race starts promptly at 8:00 AM, followed by the award ceremony at 9:15 AM.

Awards will be presented to the top male and female overall finishers, as well as to the top three male and female participants in each age category, starting with ages 18-24 and continuing in five-year increments. Students aged 17 and under who complete the course will receive a medal. All participants are provided with a t-shirt and runner bag.

Participants are encouraged to turn their run or walk into a fundraiser in recognition of Lamp for Haiti’s 20th anniversary of delivering quality healthcare to residents of Cité Soleil, Haiti, and surrounding areas. Registered runners and walkers are invited to raise $200, with all proceeds supporting Lamp for Haiti's mission to provide critical, life-saving care to thousands annually. The top three fundraisers will receive a gift; however, the primary reward is the positive impact made in the lives of others.

We welcome everyone, whether participating or not, to attend this community event featuring music, refreshments, and enjoyable activities, all supporting an important cause.

Our 5K this year is better than ever with more police presence and traffic control, USATF-sanctioned certified 5K course, awards for the overall top male and female and top three male and females in age categories beginning 18-24 and in five-year increments up to 80, awards medals for runners/walkers 17 and under who complete the course, refreshments, music, and so much more all for a GREAT cause!
