On this episode of "Faithful Disruption," Trista’s guest is Stephanie A. Budwey, the Associate Professor of Sacred Music and Dean of the Chapel at Austin Seminary. Budwey’s teaching and research focus on the relationships between social justice issues, liturgy, and the arts, particularly in congregational song.

A member of the Episcopal Church, she has many years of practical experience having worked in churches of various denominations and contexts as organist and choir director. She currently serves as organist at First Presbyterian Church of Austin.

As always, you can reach Trista at the Center for Religion in Public Life by emailing: [email protected].

How has mentorship impacted your seminary journey?

We all know how valuable mentorship can be, which is why we’ve made it an integral part of our Seminary Scholars program.

Each Seminary Scholar is assigned a mentor. We had the opportunity to speak with one of our mentors, the Rev. Alicia Forde. She shares the importance of mentorship and how it's played a role in her education journey.

Our Center for Ministry and Lay Training is excited to partner with New Church Ministry to offer DisciplesNEXT: Emerge, a learning experience for individuals who are ready to explore new possibilities for ministry.

Emerge is designed for innovators and faithful leaders who are willing to ask, "What's next?"

The curriculum bridges the gap between inspiration and action. This is accomplished with meaningful readings, practical ministry resources, and guided journal reflection. Participants can expect hours of learning and develop practical next steps for ministry in their own unique context.

As you complete the program, you'll also receive a Leadership Continuing Education Certificate from Phillips Theological Seminary and the Center for Ministry and Lay Training, recognizing your commitment to innovative leadership and ongoing ministry formation.

Why is the Seminary Scholar program so special? There are many reasons but one of the most appreciated incentives is mentorship.

Each first-year Seminary Scholar is paired with a mentor in their chosen field. This is someone who can offer guidance and wisdom as they navigate their seminary journey. Our Program Manager for Recruitment & Admissions, Jay Williams, breaks down the details.

Phillips makes sure our Seminary Scholars are fully supported throughout their seminary journey.
