We know many of you have been wondering about what’s next for Malayan tigers as our five cubs continue to grow. As we’ve shared previously, Tulsa Zoo works closely with the Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ Malayan Tiger Species Survival Plan (Tiger SSP), which brings accredited facilities together to cooperatively manage a sustainable population of Malayan tigers in human care.

As a critically endangered species, every tiger is incredibly important to the future of Malayan tigers. As our five cubs have grown, our animal teams and the SSP have worked together to determine the best next steps for each individual tiger at Tulsa Zoo. This includes upcoming transfers to other AZA-accredited facilities, where the cubs may have the opportunity to start families of their own someday.

We aren't able to share specifics about where each tiger will be going just yet, but in the meantime, come visit our tigers while you can! 🐯 We know this news may feel bittersweet for the many of you who have watched our cubs grow, celebrated their birthdays with us and followed along with their journey since they were born. We’re incredibly proud of our tigers and excited about what their futures may hold. Stay tuned for more updates!

Tulsa’s favorite spooky (but not-too-scary) experience is back! 🎃✨ HallowZOOeen presented by Oklahoma Central Credit Union returns October 24-25 & 29-31 with your choice of day or night sessions, each offering a unique HallowZOOeen adventure.

Kids can collect treats at Goblin Stops, play carnival games at the Pumpkin Patch, get spooked at the Bennett Steel, Inc. Neverglades Haunted House, encounter special themed activities at the Verity Family & Burger King Royal Castle, Zink Family Foundation Arachnid Arcade, and Andy B's Pirate Island as well as enjoy Haunted Train rides around the zoo. Costumes encouraged for all! 👑🦇

When elephants spend time in the water, they can completely submerge their heads and much of their bodies while keeping their trunks above the surface to breathe, kind of like a built-in snorkel! 🤿 Their trunks are an incredible anatomical adaptation that allows them to breathe, smell, drink, communicate and manipulate objects.

An elephant's trunk is a combination of its nose and upper lip and contains thousands of muscles that give it incredible strength and precision. Asian elephants also have one finger-like projection at the tip of their trunks, compared to two on African elephants, helping them grasp and manipulate objects.

Our elephants have access to several ponds and pools throughout their habitat, giving them opportunities to swim, splash and cool off as part of their daily routine. 🐘💦

Chai is back for Part 2! Training is an important part of supporting Chai's individual needs. Through positive reinforcement, she voluntarily participates in behaviors that help our WildLIFE Trek team monitor her health and provide treatment for her chronic arthritis.

Individualized routines like these are just one example of how our teams adapt to each animal's unique needs. Next time you visit, be sure to look for Chai in the Trek Desert building! 🐗💚

Meet Chai, our collared peccary! 🐗💚

Chai has called Tulsa Zoo home since 2017 and can be found in the Trek Desert building. While she has lived with other peccaries in the past, she is currently singly housed.

In the wild, collared peccaries live in close-knit family groups and often engage in mutual grooming to help maintain social bonds. To help support Chai's well-being, our WildLIFE Trek team has developed an individualized routine that includes daily scratches in some of her favorite spots, along with increased enrichment and training sessions throughout the week.

Watch as Jess, our WildLIFE Trek supervisor, shares more about Chai and the unique ways our team supports her well-being. 🐗✨
