The mission of Porta Caeli House is to extend Christ’s love to those in need through compassionate end-of-life care, when dying at home is not an option. Guests are served regardless of race, illness, faith or financial status; services are provided at no charge. They must be enrolled in a hospice program, under a physician’s care, before being admitted to Porta Caeli House. To address the unmet n
eed for a home to care for those in the last stage of life regardless of illness, “social hospice” homes have emerged in some communities to provide a comfortable and peaceful place where dying individuals can receive basic care and support until death. With 12 private rooms, we are able to care for hundreds of people each year who are in the last days or weeks of their lives, giving them the opportunity to be in a home-like environment, surrounded by caring people. Their medical care is overseen and dictated by their hospice agencies and associated physicians. Our caregiving staff tends to the guest's personal care needs, administers appropriate medications (as dictated by hospice agency staff), and supplies much needed emotional, spiritual, and physical support and comfort. Caregiving staff provides the level of care that a family could in their home, allowing the guest's loved ones to instead focus on being present to their loved ones, relieved of the burden of meeting their physical needs.
