After 17 years of serving Scouting as the Ranger of Camp Hale, Ernie Penrose is retiring!

Ernie started working for the Indian Nations Council November 1st, 2009. His last official day will be November 30th.

Scouting has been a big part of Ernie’s life long before he joined our staff. He made Life Scout as a youth in Troop 104 (now 935) in Broken Arrow. Later he became an Assistant Cubmaster and then Assistant Scoutmaster for Pack and Troop 225 in Sapulpa.

Over the last 17 years at Camp Hale, Ernie has watched nearly 50,000 Scouts come through camp. He’s seen Hale grow and change, helping take care of the property through it all, and played a huge role in making camp what it is today.

It’s hard to imagine Camp Hale without Ernie there…….though he plans to spend a lot of his retirement time volunteering at camp.

A retirement party/cracker-barrel will be held at Winter Camp. More details to follow.

Ernie, thank you for the many years, early mornings, long days, and everything else you’ve given to Camp Hale and Scouting. We hope you enjoy a very well-deserved retirement!

As we wrap up renewals today, Here’s the Cub Scout retention checklist every leader needs! Let's make the rest of this Scouting year the best for the scouts we serve! It's not too late to squeeze in an extra optional event for your Pack like the movie night, mentioned in this article, for the cubs to get together over Winter Break. The movie night could also be a great opportunity for scouts to invite a non-scout buddy to meet the scout buddies.

Keeping your pack engaged doesn’t require a complicated formula. Two Cub Scout leaders share simple ways to make families want to stay.

Nominations for the 2026 Silver Beaver Award are now open!

The Silver Beaver Award is the Council-level distinguished service award. Recipients of this award are registered adult leaders who have made an impact on the lives of youth through service given to the Council and to the community.

Nominations are due back to the Council Office no later than November 13th.

The next Council Coordinated Committee meeting is on October 28th from 7:00 - 8:30PM at the Scout Resource Center! All leaders are welcome to join us. Each meeting starts with a joint session and then breakouts for the following:

Safeguarding Youth

We then finish with a quick recap from the different committee meetings.

If your unit's charter or your personal registration expires at the end of October; please go online tonight and complete the process for renewal on my.scouting.com We are asking all unit renewals to be completed by tomorrow, October 15th! Please reach out to your District Executive, District Commissioner, or unit leader for help in completing either your unit's renewal or individual renewal.
