RSS - Riverdale Senior Services In 1974, RSS Founder Julia Blumenthal and her colleagues set out to improve the lives of seniors in the Riverdale community.

RSS (Riverdale Senior Services) is a multi-purpose non-profit agency whose mission is to promote the physical, intellectual, social, and emotional well-being of older adults in the Northwest Bronx. Riverdale Senior Center opened with the mission of providing a place where people could meet friends, share a meal and learn from one another. As we have grown, we’ve responded to the changing needs and interests of the vital, diverse senior population of the Northwest Bronx. In addition to a daily delicious lunch, RSS now offers a full range of exercise, cultural, health management and social programs, as well as a wide array of social and behavioral health services. We continue to evolve to meet our members’ needs, and hope you will join us, at no cost, to sample all we have to offer!

Hispanic Heritage Month | Icons Who Made History

Today, RSS celebrates Tito Puente, the Puerto Rican American musician, composer and bandleader whose unmistakable sound helped bring Latin music to audiences around the world.

Known as the “King of Latin Music,” Puente became renowned for his mastery of the timbales and his influence on mambo, salsa and Latin jazz. Across a career spanning more than five decades, his energy, musicianship and innovation helped shape the sound of Latin music and inspired generations of performers.

His rhythm lives on, a lasting celebration of culture, creativity and Puerto Rican pride.

World Sight Day at RSS | Promoting Vision Awareness Independence

In recognition of World Sight Day, Riverdale Senior Services was proud to welcome VISIONS/Services for the Blind and Visually Impaired for an informative presentation focused on vision health, accessibility, and maintaining independence.

A special thank-you to Lisa Sluszka, Certified Vision Rehabilitation Therapist and Certified Orientation amp; Mobility Specialist, for sharing her expertise with our members.

Throughout the presentation, participants learned about common eye conditions, how vision loss can affect everyday activities, and the resources available to help individuals who are blind or have low vision maintain their independence. Members also had the opportunity to explore adaptive tools and assistive devices and learn practical ways to support individuals experiencing vision loss.

We are grateful to VISIONS/Services for the Blind and Visually Impaired for their partnership and commitment to empowering individuals through education, accessibility, and supportive services.

At RSS, we remain dedicated to creating opportunities for older adults to stay informed, connected, and independent through meaningful community partnerships and educational programming.

Because independence is about more than what we see, it's about having the tools, support, and opportunities to live life to the fullest.

Today, RSS celebrates Frida Kahlo, the Mexican painter whose deeply personal artwork explored identity, the body, culture, relationships, and her own experiences with physical pain.
