Six moments. One month.

Here’s what made our August:

🐾 Best self-care moment: Animal Therapy volunteers taking time to recharge, create and connect.

🏈 Most gameday-ready: TMH Gift Shop VIPs making sure fans are stocked up for tailgate season.

🎓 New beginnings: Thanks to Virginia Glass and the Glass Community Education Fund, 61 graduates are supported as they take their first steps toward careers in healthcare. 🩺💙

🐶 Best glow-up: Copper, from scrapyard rescue to beloved TMH therapy dog. ❤️

💗 Most heartwarming visit: Coach Lonni Alameda and the FSU Women’s Softball team bringing laughter, encouragement and plenty of smiles to the Cancer Center.

💙 Best reminder: Sometimes the smallest moments—a craft, support during a new season, a comforting paw or a little encouragement—can make the biggest difference.

That’s a wrap on August. See you in September! 👋✨

Yesterday, the TMH Cancer Center was filled with something you may not expect in such a place: laughter, warmth and a lot of joy.

Coach Lonni Alameda and the FSU Women’s Softball team came to visit patients, just as they have for years. They talked, laughed, listened and reminded patients and caregivers that, even on the hardest days, they are surrounded by people cheering them on.

You could see it happen.

Faces that had looked tired and weighed down began to brighten. Patients and caregivers who were having a particularly difficult day opened up, smiled and connected with the players and Coach Lonni.

For most of her career at Florida State, Coach Lonni and her team have walked through the doors of the Cancer Center to encourage patients.

But last year, everything changed.

After her own breast cancer diagnosis, Coach Lonni came to understand exactly what it feels like to sit in one of those chairs on treatment days. Now, when she visits, she doesn’t just ask how someone is doing. She asks about their treatment. Where they are in their journey. What they’re facing.

And she offers something uniquely powerful: encouragement from someone who knows what it is like and what it means to be a patient.

There is something incredibly beautiful about watching her turn her own difficult experience into a reason to show up for someone else.

And it makes honoring Coach Lonni at this year’s Cards for a Cure even more meaningful.

The patients, caregivers and colleagues at the TMH Cancer Center are champions in every sense of the word. Yesterday, Coach Lonni and her players reminded them that they have an entire community standing beside them.

On September 12, let’s join them and be part of that cheering section.

💗 Join us for Cards for a Cure to support Coach Lonni, our cancer patients, and our incredible Cancer Center team. As we saw yesterday, a few minutes of encouragement from a few people can make a visible difference. Just think of what we could do together.

Today, we’re celebrating National Dog Day with a very special member of the TMH Animal Therapy family: Copper. 🐶❤️

Copper’s story started at a local scrapyard. Crystal got a call from a friend who had found a dog and wasn’t able to take her home. She had recently lost her therapy dog and was looking for another four-legged partner. Copper, with her beautiful black-and-tan coloring, immediately caught Crystal's eye.

For a month, Crystal searched for Copper’s family, putting up flyers and trying to find out where she came from. No one came forward. So, Crystal decided to keep her.

“I said, well, I’m just going to keep her because she’s amazing and she’s going to be a therapy dog.”

And she was right. ❤️

Copper is smart, loving and incredibly gentle. She loves being around people and seems to know when someone needs a little extra time with her.

“There have been times where a person sits with her, and it’s almost like she can tell, I need to be with this person a little longer, mom. This person needs me. I don’t know why, but this person needs me,” Crystal says.

“And genuinely, during that point, she will lay down and she’ll kind of roll so that her belly is up. And that’s kind of the sign like, hey, mom, we need to stay here.”

That is Copper’s gift. ❤️

And while we love ALL of our TMH Animal Therapy dogs, the mission of National Dog Day gives us a special opportunity to shine a light on some of our rescue therapy dogs and the incredible love they bring to our community every day. 🐾

For Crystal, adopting shelter dogs is something she believes in deeply. She has volunteered with the Animal Shelter Foundation for years and has welcomed several rescue dogs into her own family, including five who have gone on to become therapy dogs.

Her message to anyone thinking about adoption is simple: keep looking.

“There is a dog for everybody,” she says. “And just because your dog isn’t there [at the shelter] on the day that you go doesn’t mean they’re not going to be there tomorrow.”

She also encourages people to look beyond breed or pedigree.

“There’s nothing that makes them different other than the fact that they don’t have a certificate or a piece of paper,” she says. “But they’re wonderful, wonderful creatures.”

And perhaps most beautifully: “It’s a gift. It is a gift. They know they are being adopted and they are thankful. It is the most amazing thing.”

So this National Dog Day, we’re celebrating Copper and all of the rescue dogs who have found their way into the TMH Animal Therapy family. They may have started out in shelters, rescues or even scrapyards. But now, they spend their days bringing comfort, joy and a little bit of home to people who need it most. ❤️

🎓 A new school year is a reminder of just how powerful a new beginning can be.

For 61 recent graduates from Chiles, SAIL and Godby High Schools, that new beginning is a career in healthcare. 🩺

Through Lively Technical College, these students completed CNA and/or phlebotomy certification programs. Thanks to the generosity of Virginia Glass and the Glass Community Education Fund, they also received help covering their certification testing fees, along with a pulse oximeter, scrubs and support toward a good pair of working shoes.

For Virginia, helping these graduates get started is about more than providing supplies. It’s about helping young people turn their hard work into an opportunity.

Virginia knows something about hard work. Growing up on a farm in Mayo, Florida, she learned the value of it early. She went on to build a 52-year career in real estate, where one of her favorite things was helping people make their dreams come true. Since retiring, she’s continued that same work in a different way, dedicating her time as a tireless community volunteer and philanthropist.

“I can't imagine not being involved in the community when the community has done so much for me,” Virginia has said.

Now, she’s helping make a new dream possible for these 61 graduates as they take their first steps into healthcare—including careers that may bring them to TMH.

Their hard work got them here. A little extra support is helping them take the next step.

We’re so grateful to Virginia for investing in these young people and in the future of healthcare in our community. 💙

Congratulations, graduates! We can’t wait to see all that you’ll accomplish.

You can help graduates like these take their next step by supporting the Glass Community Education Fund with a gift at TMH.ORG/Donate.

We are SO excited to celebrate 20 years of Cards for a Cure! 💗

There are plenty of reasons to be excited: celebrating breast cancer patients and survivors, honoring this year’s special honoree, FSU Softball Head Coach Lonni Alameda, and spending a Saturday night with great food, drinks, games, live music and, of course, lots of friends!

And while all of that is pretty wonderful, we’re even more excited about what happens because of it.

When you join us for Cards for a Cure, you’re helping provide breast cancer patients in our community with the care and support they need, right here at home.

Community support through the TMH Foundation helps uninsured cancer patients access important imaging services, provides gas cards, transportation and lodging for patients traveling to Tallahassee for care, and brings advanced technology to the operating room and Cancer Center.

In 2025 alone, community donations helped make PET scans, MRIs and other imaging services possible for approximately 80 uninsured cancer patients. Donor support also provided more than 300 hotel nights for patients and their caregivers between October 2025 and July 2026.

And because breast cancer represents the largest share of the more than 2,000 new cancer cases diagnosed at Tallahassee Memorial Cancer Center each year, supporting advanced breast cancer care makes a very real difference for our neighbors.

So come celebrate with us. Have a great night. Make some memories. And know that while you’re having fun, you’re helping local patients face cancer with greater access to care and support. 💗

🎟️ Join us for the 20th anniversary of Cards for a Cure on Saturday, Sept. 12, at The Moon.

Sometimes, the caretakers need a little care, too. 💙

Being a TMH Animal Therapy volunteer may look like it's all fun and furry friends—and a lot of the time, it is. But these volunteers also walk alongside patients and families during some of their most difficult moments. While they provide care in a different way than clinical staff or Spiritual Care, they are still caregivers, often witnessing trauma first-hand and carrying a lot of emotions along the way.

That’s why caring for our volunteers matters, too. Today, our Animal Therapy volunteers gathered at the Animal Therapy Training Center for a little self-care, connection and creativity during an iris-folding workshop, where they made greeting cards using colorful origami paper.

Workshops like this offer volunteers a chance to step away from their usual roles, spend time together and build community with the people who understand their experiences best. Many of these opportunities are also volunteer-led, making them a special way for the team to build community and care for one another.

And, of course, no Animal Therapy gathering would be complete without a therapy animal. 🐾 Muffin, a therapy cat in training, was on hand to keep a watchful eye on the humans, make sure everyone was following directions, do a little crafting of her own and, of course, offer some soft fur and purrs whenever someone needed a little break.

Because sometimes, the people who spend their days caring for others need a little break and someone, or some cat, to care for them, too. 💙🐱
