A Virtual Gratitude Reception: CGLR Applauds Civic Leadership and Engagement

With reflections from CGLR’s community leads, they will spotlight a Masonic foundation’s century-old commitment to reading and public education; a Kiwanis Literacy Club’s efforts to rebuild access to reading materials in Southern California after disastrous fires; a historically African American fraternity’s support of a national reading program that brings literacy resources to under resourced elementary schools; and a service organization’s decades of support for pediatric screening. All, in their own ways, are answering the same call to bring people together to accomplish what no one could achieve alone.

This session will celebrate and unpack how these critical resources advance civic leadership and engagement across communities nationwide, and how their efforts help us focus on the literacy gaps affecting our children and families in underserved communities.

Chronic absence remains one of the most stubborn barriers to early school success — and one of the top priorities for state education leaders.
Join us for an engaging GLR Week conversation about how different states are accelerating and scaling district-level progress, proving that cutting chronic absence is a goal that red and blue states share.
Attendees will hear directly from state leaders who have answered The 50% Challenge — the call to cut chronic absence in half within five years — and who are making measurable, replicable progress. Panelists will also share examples of how local and state-level CGLR coalitions are supporting and benefiting from these efforts.

The Campaign for Grade-Level Reading is driven by the mission to disrupt generational poverty by accelerating equitable academic recovery for children in marginalized families. This GLR Week session is particularly timely as it follows the June 10, 2026, release of National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) Long-Term Trend results, which provide a critical national snapshot of student learning following historic declines. With just 14% of 13-year-olds now reporting they read for fun almost every day — a record low — this session seeks “glimmers of light” to address these sobering assessment trends.

As part of GLR Week, the Campaign for Grade-Level Reading's annual early literacy celebration, the Florida Grade-Level Reading Campaign is proud to launch its Literacy Pledge Project —an effort that will continue through the end of 2026.

Our goal is simple and ambitious: to gather as many pledges as possible from partners, supporters, and champions across Florida who are committed to strengthening early literacy. Beginning in September, our monthly newsletter will highlight pledge totals from each category in every local campaign community, showcasing the collective impact of our statewide movement.

FGLRC deeply values the dedication of our literacy partners, like‑minded businesses, and engaged families across the state.
