The Association of Private Enterprise Education (APEE) is a group of teachers and scholars from colleges, universities, public policy institutes, and industry with a common goal of studying and bettering our understanding of private enterprise. APEE publishes The Journal of Private Enterprise to provide a forum for its scholars to share their findings with the wider academic community. APEE’s mission is to help people understand and apply private enterprise principles: revealing to people the invisible hand at work, a future of innovation, productivity, fairness, and ever-improving standards of living for all people, and maintaining the kind of dynamic environment which permits change and growth. APEE recently hosted its annual meeting for its members to share their research and offer awards to individuals who have greatly contributed to the understanding of private enterprise. The DMI attended this year in Las Vegas, with a number of interns to present their findings and network with other members in the public policy sphere.

On March 2, 2026, The James Madison Institute published a policy brief written by Crystal Taylor, Ph.D., AICP, Isla Riddell, Jose Collantes, and Mark Butler!

The researchers proposed a potential guide to help alleviate the ongoing Florida housing shortage issue. They split their ideas into three categories: land development for certain uses, structural propositions for new housing, and permit and approval processes. By proposing various solutions to make housing more affordable and available, the team aimed to demonstrate the effectiveness of broader laws, more diverse housing structures, and zoning changes.
