UFCW 367 is endorsing Emily Clouse for re-election as Thurston County Commissioner.

A military veteran and a former union member, Clouse has already proven her effectiveness during her first term. She championed budgetary transparency and was the sole commissioner to oppose a salary increase for elected officials that was double the cost-of-living increase given to county staff. She delivered $25 million in funding for affordable housing initiatives and helped launch a program to reduce homeowners' energy costs.

“Even I was too afraid to speak up to my landlord.”

Jennifer is born and raised in Tacoma, a full-time working mom, and a proud member of UFCW 367. Even with union backing and knowledge of her rights, she faced an illegal rent increase, unlawful fees, and retaliation for speaking up.

When bad-actor landlords ignore city tenant protections, working families bear the cost. Jennifer was forced to hire a lawyer to defend herself.

As Jennifer asks: “What happens to the single mom who doesn’t have the backing of a union? What happens to renters who don’t have access to legal resources?”
Outside corporate landlords are pouring hundreds of thousands of dollars into Tacoma to kill Measure 1 to avoid accountability. Measure 1 enforces tenant protections already on the books so every family has a defense against illegal rent hikes, illegal conditions, and retaliation.

UFCW 367 is endorsing Miguel Gutierrez for Mason County District 3 Commissioner.

Currently a sitting city council member for Shelton, Miguel Gutierrez wants to bring his worker-focused platform to the county level. His first priority is affordable, quality housing — including stronger regulation of landlords and rental inspections. He supports the Workers' Bill of Rights and pledged to stay accountable through active participation in community meetings and direct feedback from his constituents, while committing to find bipartisan paths to get his goals passed.

The members of the UFCW 367 Executive Board endorse Miguel because his platform matches what our members need: real housing accountability and a representative who answers to his constituents. We worked late into Tuesday night to finalize agreements on a Labor-Management Committee, Union Security, Seniority, Leaves of Absence, and billable-hours requirements.

During negotiations, the Employer cited recent WFSE and SEIU public-sector contracts that reportedly included no wage increases as justification for its own wage and bonus proposals. But workers should not have to trade dependable pay raises for the uncertainty of a bonus.

✊ We remain committed to securing reliable wage increases for Nexus workers and stand in solidarity with WFSE and SEIU members whose employers have failed to respect the value of their work.

UFCW 367 is endorsing Judge Jaime Hawk for Washington State Supreme Court, Position 3.

Judge Hawk has served on the King County Superior Court since 2022, when she was appointed by Governor Jay Inslee, and has since been reelected by King County voters. Before taking the bench, she spent over two decades as a public defender and civil rights attorney and she now currently serves on the Washington Supreme Court's Minority and Justice Commission.

In her time on the King County bench, Judge Hawk has presided over a wide range of complex civil, criminal, and family law cases, earning a reputation for fairness and thoughtfulness. Her campaign has centered on expanding access to justice, protecting constitutional rights, and ensuring an independent, impartial judiciary.

For all these reasons, the members of the UFCW 367 Executive Board are proud to endorse Judge Jaime Hawk for the Washington State Supreme Court.

UFCW 367 is endorsing Jenn Marie Strickling for State Representative, District 25, Position 2.

Strickling is a former union laborer and a small business owner. As a Pierce County Charter Commissioner she advocated for union job requirements on public contracts and making certain that local public dollars were reinvested into local businesses, not outside contractors. She understands the balance that allows business and labor to thrive together and that, along with the rest of her platform, is why the members of the UFCW 367 Executive Board choose to endorse her.
