Meet Jeremy Ohl, a member of our Teal Team! Becoming a part of the Teal Team means committing to a monthly gift—big or small—that adds to the collective support sustaining the vital therapy, advocacy, and prevention education services we provide for victim-survivors and the community. Reminder that there is still time to register for our Fall Support Group!

This September we’re offering a Support Group—a safe and confidential space for victim-survivors to connect, share, and explore topics like communication and coping skills, boundaries, healthy intimacy, self-care, and more. This is a free 6 week closed group led by a Victim Advocate, meeting every Thursday from 9/10 through 10/15 for two-hour sessions from 6-8pm. Support group will take place online via Zoom or in person at our Tacoma Office, based on participant preference. Our support group is for Pierce and Kitsap victim-survivors of all genders who are 18+.

Meet Rachel Yu, one of our amazing Volunteer Advocates! At Rebuilding Hope, our volunteer Victim Advocates are a vital part of our team. They answer our 24/7 Helpline and respond to hospital calls, always offering confidential support, crisis intervention, and information about our services and local resources.

Volunteering as a Victim Advocate is a meaningful way to deepen your understanding of sexual assault and abuse systems, build advocacy skills, and support your community in a powerful way. The work we do literally wouldn’t be possible without our dedicated volunteer Advocates!

When asked why she volunteers at Rebuilding Hope, she said, “Rebuilding Hope has given me the opportunity to help others, and I believe when people help people, they are able to form a community that helps to uphold each other and create a space where people are willing to work together to create real change – whether in an interpersonal or systematic way.” Thank you so much Rachel for offering your time and dedication to our work!

At Rebuilding Hope, we’re honored to be part of this network of care by providing advocacy, education, and therapeutic healing services for victim-survivors.

We’re proud of the work we do, but we know we’re not doing it alone. Our impact is possible because of the partnerships we’ve built with other incredible nonprofits, all working to foster safer communities and uplift each other’s work. Together, we create a stronger, more connected support system so that everyone can access the resources they need to heal and thrive.

August is Make a Will Month!

Estate planning can feel like a daunting task, but even the smallest step can support a future where victim-survivors have access to more support. Whether it's savings, a retirement account, or personal belongings, your ‘stuff’ becomes your estate, which can carry on your values and make a meaningful impact for your loved ones and community. That is why we ALL need to take a moment to create our wills!

By naming Rebuilding Hope in your will, trust, or insurance policy, you will build a future free from sexual violence—without changing your financial situation today. Planned gifts of any size help ensure that our services remain strong and available for years to come.

Don’t forget about a special opportunity to strengthen victim-survivor services!

There is still time to participate in the Washington State Survivor Needs Assessment, a statewide survey led by the Office of Crime Victims Advocacy (OCVA) and 18 Stones Strategy.

If you are an adult Washington resident who has experienced violence, abuse, exploitation, or another form of harm—or you are a family member or friend of someone who has—you are invited to share your experience. Your voice is powerful and can help inform how WA funds victim services. The survey is anonymous, takes about 20 minutes to complete, and is available in both English and Spanish.

Your feedback will help inform the future of victim services across Washington and ensure that survivor experiences remain at the center of how services are developed and funded. Survey questions focus on the support you needed, rather than the harm itself.

Let the competition begin!

Board Member Ian Bauer—performing as The Orphan 40—is taking the stage once again to raise money for Rebuilding Hope and compete for 1st place on October 1 for Law Rocks Seattle. And he needs your help to win!

Law Rocks hosts epic battle-of-the-bands fundraising concerts in cities around the world, giving legal professionals a chance to rock out and give back to their nonprofit of choice. Bands will perform a range of rocking sets and will compete to win based on how much donations they raise, tickets & sponsorships, and a panel of judges.

Donations open TODAY through 9/17. Help Ian win and support his goal to raise as much as possible for Rebuilding Hope through his performance. If you would like to support Ian’s goal, simply go to lawrocks.org/sea, click “Get tickets/Donate”, enter the amount and payment info, then select “Orphan 40 for Rebuilding Hope” and 100% of your donation will go directly to Rebuilding Hope.

Ian will be performing to benefit Rebuilding Hope—alongside Law Rocks’ work raising funds for music education programs for underprivileged youth. We’re honored to be his nonprofit of choice and can’t wait to cheer him on!

Reminder that The Office of Crime Victims Advocacy (OCVA) is still seeking input from victim-survivors about what support services should look like in Washington state. Take the survey from 18 Stones Strategy for their Compass Initiative!

OCVA is inviting adult Washington State Residents who have experienced hurt, harm, or crime --as well as their family and friends– to share their perspective so they can get a better understanding of the experiences and needs of victim-survivors when seeking support. If you or someone you know has experienced domestic violence, sexual assault, exploitation, or other forms of harm, this is an opportunity to use your voice to make a difference in our statewide services for victim-survivors.

This survey is completely anonymous and takes about 20 min to complete. English and Spanish versions are available, and questions focus on support services, not the harm itself.
