YEP - Youth Engaged in Philanthropy - DeKalb County, IL Youth Engaged in Philanthropy (YEP) is a youth-led initiative of the DeKalb Community Foundation dedicated to youth involvement in the community.

Members learn about philanthropy and nonprofits, and participate in a $18,000+ grantmaking opportunity.

YEP Exec '26-'27 meets for the first time this summer! 🌞

Questions we asked: When have you worked with a group of people to create change? How did it grow those friendships?

"YEP has equipped me with the tools to succeed. Now I am going to use those tools for the greater good," Rayna White (Sycamore HS, '26) wrote in her YEP Changemakers Scholarship application. She received the scholarship from YEP Advisor, Brenda Jergens, at the YEP End-of-Year Celebration, May 11.

Rayna is a 4-year member of YEP and served as Fundraising Chair this past year. She will attend Hope College, in Holland, Michigan, this fall.

The YEP Changemakers Scholarship is awarded annually to a graduating senior of Youth Engaged in Philanthropy (YEP) who exemplifies the values and ideas of youth philanthropy in the community. This is a one-time, $1,000 award for tuition or educational expenses.

The YEP Changemaker Scholarship is made possible through the family of Kurt D. Hudson to honor his life and memory.

Youth Engaged in Philanthropy (YEP) sticks with alumni for good!

Here's what Madeleine V. (2019 grad) had to say about her experience: "YEP changed the way I think about giving. It's easy to donate to a cause and move on, but getting to visit local organizations and see their work up close reminded me that every good thing that happens in a community is the result of real people showing up every day...Getting to go beyond the donation and meet the organizers, see their spaces, and understand their work gave me a new respect for the humans behind every cause."

YEP is starting to sound like a broken record! 🎁Remember a couple days ago when YEP broke its Give DeKalb County fundraising record? Well, thanks to you, we broke that record breaking record! UPDATED totals: $27,152 for program & grantmaking + $16,125 for the Forever Fund = $43,277 (and counting)! Thank you, generous neighbors!
