Important Update Regarding Our Home Preservation Program

At Habitat for Humanity of DeKalb County, we know how important safe, affordable housing is for the families we serve. That's why it is with a heavy heart that we share an important update regarding our Home Preservation Program.

Beginning June 22, 2026, we will be temporarily pausing the Home Preservation Program due to a lack of available funding.

While we do not currently have a projected reopening date, our team is actively pursuing grant opportunities, partnerships, and other funding sources to restore this vital service as quickly as possible.

This program has helped countless homeowners maintain safe, healthy living conditions and remain in the homes they love. We remain committed to serving our neighbors and are working diligently to bring this program back.

Yesterday, June 9, was the Kishwaukee United Way Day of Caring and we were honored to be one of the many organizations that are receiving funds for 2026! Along with receiving the funds, we were thrilled to host Target at duplex site as part of the Day of Caring. Despite the rain, the Target team and Bob, Board Member and volunteer, carried on with some tasks of getting walls in place.

Kim McIver, our Executive Director, serves on the Habitat for Humanity of Illinois Board of Directors and last night attended the Chicagoland Habitat for Humanity Hero Award Dinner.

We are so grateful that Kim has a seat at that table and represents not just us but all affiliates in Illinois. THAT is community partnership!

It has started! The point where we are building with the help of volunteers and we are SO excited.

May 30 volunteers from Christ Community Church - DeKalb Campus came out to help us on our build. They raised walls that will create that security for the two families.
