Paranormal Moms Society Memorial Day
This day is very near and dear to the heart of the Paranormal Moms Society, especially to me as our historical researcher. The deeper I go into our local history, the more I realize how many stories of courage, sacrifice, and heartbreak live quietly in the shadows waiting for someone to remember them.
In my research, I’ve come across stories that stay with you long after you close the book.
Stories like the men of Company B, 192nd Tank Battalion local National Guardsmen. Out of the 122 soldiers who deployed from Maywood in 1940, were forced into the brutal 1942 Bataan Death March, and endured the horrors of POW camps… only 41 made it home. Their courage and suffering are woven into the very ground we walk on.
And then there are the stories of those left behind like the women who lived at the Maywood Home for Soldiers’ Widows, built in 1924 to care for the widows and children of Civil War Union soldiers. Sponsored by the Daughters of Union Veterans, it stood as a reminder that sacrifice doesn’t end on the battlefield. It echoes through families, through generations, through time.
Memorial Day reminds us of all of them, the fallen, the survivors, the families who carried the weight of loss, and the communities forever changed.
It reminds us to never forget those who paid the ultimate price.
To give thanks for the freedoms we often take for granted.
And to teach our children just how extraordinary this country is because of the people who fought, suffered, and sacrificed for it.
Today, we remember.
Today, we honor.
Today, we carry their stories forward.
