HALO Havanese Angel League for Rescue

HALO Havanese Angel League for Rescue Formed in 2002 - Registered non-profit dedicated to the survival and care of Havanese dogs Our goal is to save one Havanese at a time.

HALO is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to the survival and care of Havanese dogs. Since we were formed in 2002, we have rescued 1400 Havanese. Most of our rescues are from puppy mills with a small number coming from animal shelters or owner surrenders. Many of the mill dogs we rescue are about to be euthanized because they are no longer considered "profitable" by the puppy mill – a

7-month old puppy is too old to sell at a pet store; a 9-year old female is no longer producing large enough litters; or there are health issues that would cost money to treat. As long as there is a foster home available, we rescue every single Havanese we can. We ensure they receive any medical treatment necessary and we carefully choose adopters based on the best fit for each individual Havanese. Until they are adopted, no matter how long that takes, our fosters help them adjust to a new life of freedom. We are determined that the life they lead after rescue will be a safe, healthy and happy one. The resilience of this breed and their ability, no matter their age, to move beyond the horrors of life in a mill to become loving, happy family pets is truly amazing. Our work will continue until laws are changed to ban puppy mills throughout the country.

Meet Babette!
This beautiful chocolate Havanese has the most soulful eyes you've ever seen and a quiet, gentle nature. When Babette first arrived in foster care, she was deeply shut down and unsure of the world around her. With patience, kindness, and time, she has slowly begun to blossom. Watching her learn to trust has been one of the most rewarding experiences for her foster family.
Babette is not the type of dog who will not immediately curl up in your lap. She prefers to quietly observe the world from the safety of her favorite fuzzy donut bed, taking everything in at her own pace. Once she feels safe, though, you'll discover her sweet little routines. Every morning she enjoys gentle belly rubs, and she's even learned that sleeping in a big bed with her people is one of life's greatest comforts.
She gets along well with calm, respectful dogs. A laid-back resident dog would be a wonderful role model. Babette has learned to wear a harness and is comfortable being picked up by people she knows. She is not yet comfortable walking on a leash and will often freeze, so a securely fenced yard is required. She enjoys spending time outdoors. She is making steady progress with housetraining.
One of Babette's cutest quirks is her daily play session with a crinkle toy. She'll happily shake it, toss it into the air, and repeat the performance before settling back into her favorite cozy spot.
Babette is very food motivated which will continue to be a wonderful training tool for her future family. Her ideal home is a quiet, patient one where life moves at a gentle pace. She will need adopters who understand that trust isn't rushed—it is earned.

Babette's foster mom: "Winning her heart will take some time, but the reward will renew your faith in the power of patience, love, and acceptance."
If you believe the deepest bonds are worth waiting for, Babette may be the perfect companion for you.
Babette is up-to-date on all medical. Her adoption fee is $350 and her adoption will take place in her foster home in New Cumberland, PA. She is 9 years old and weighs approximately 12lbs.

Hi…It's me - Raffi - My foster momma says that I'm smiling all the time & my coat is floofy now - so she got an updated photo of me to create a new post. I’m a 6-year-old Havanese girl, and I’m looking for someone special… someone patient, kind - and ready for a little shadow who will love them with her whole heart.
When I first meet new people, I can be a bit shy. I like to hang back and watch until I feel safe. But once I know you’re my person… everything changes.
I will follow you everywhere. Sit right next to you. Lean into you.
And if you stop petting me… I’ll gently nudge you to remind you not to stop.
Being close to my person is my very favorite thing in the world.
I’m sweet, cuddly, and I love attention. I can be picked up, I walk on a leash (I’m still learning, but I try!), and I’m doing well with going potty outside. I sleep quietly in my crate at night and rest there when you’re away.
I like toys, and I get along well with other dogs—but honestly, I’d choose you over anything else.
Some things still make me a little unsure, especially new people. If you’re someone who will go slow with me, let me come to you, and give me the love I’ve been waiting for… I will be the most loyal, loving companion you could ever imagine.
I’m ready to find my person. Maybe it’s you!

If you are interested in adopting Raffi, please go to rescuedhavanese.org/adoption to apply. It is a requirement that her adopter have another well-adjusted dog. This is important for our puppy mill rescues so they can continue their progress.
Her adoption fee is $450. She has been fully vetted, spayed and had a dental.
Her adoption will take place in her foster home near Cleveland Ohio (Vermillion, Ohio).

Available for Adoption!
Hi, I'm Sage!
I'm a beautiful Havanese girl born on March 9, 2022, and I weigh a petite 9.9 pounds. My foster family says I'm adorable, smart, and very loving—and who am I to argue?
My favorite thing in the whole world is being with my people. If you're gardening, I'm happy to supervise. If you're working at your desk, I'll keep you company. If you're sitting on the couch, I'll gladly snuggle beside you. I especially love laps and cuddles, and if you happen to pick me up for some extra affection, I certainly won't complain!
I enjoy taking leisurely walks around the neighborhood. I'm not in any hurry—I like to stop, sniff, and explore all the interesting smells along the way. I wear my harness nicely and enjoy getting out and about.
When I first meet new people, I can be a little shy. I like to take my time getting to know strangers, but if they're kind and patient (and maybe have a treat!), I warm up nicely. Once I trust you, you'll discover what a sweet and affectionate little companion I am.
I live with other dogs in my foster home and get along very well with them. In fact, because I came from a puppy mill, I must have another friendly, confident dog in my forever home. Having a canine friend helps me feel safe and gives me confidence as I continue learning how wonderful life can be.
I love hanging out on the couch and sleeping in bed with my people. There are dog beds around the house, but honestly, I'd much rather be wherever you are! I haven't figured out why anyone would choose a dog bed over a cozy human bed.
I'm still working on a few things. I know that pottying happens outside, but I haven't quite learned how to tell you when I need to go. If you're attentive and help me stay on a schedule, I do very well. I'm also learning that I don't need to jump up when I want attention—sometimes I just get so excited to be near my people!
My foster family says I would thrive with someone who is retired, works from home, or is home much of the day. I love being involved in whatever is happening and would be happiest with a family that enjoys having a devoted little shadow.
My adoption fee is $500, and my adoption will take place in my foster home in Wilmington, Delaware, where you'll be able to meet me and see how I've been living. For more info rescuedhavanese.org/adoption
If you're looking for a loyal companion who will adore you, keep you company, and fill your days with love, I might just be the girl you've been waiting for.
Love,
Sage 🐾

Meet Ricci – A Tiny Girl with a Big Heart 💗
Ricci is an adorable little sweetheart who is just beginning to discover how wonderful life can be. At around 4 years old, this precious girl has come a long way in foster care, and every day her confidence continues to blossom.
One of the first things you’ll notice about Ricci is her irresistible face. She has a charming underbite that gives her what her foster family lovingly calls her little “upside-down walrus tusks.” Combined with her beautiful expressive eyes and incredibly soft, silky coat that develops the sweetest curls as it grows, she is impossible not to fall in love with. 🥰
Ricci’s favorite part of every day is greeting the people she loves. Each morning she dances excitedly, waving her tiny paws for attention before heading outside. She happily asks for scratches, belly rubs, cuddles, and face kisses, and she has recently discovered that snuggling on the couch is one of life’s greatest pleasures. While she prefers to approach you on her own terms rather than being chased or reached for, once she trusts you, her affectionate nature shines through.
Like many puppy mill survivors, Ricci can still be a little nervous, especially when being picked up. She does best with patient, gentle people who let her come to them. Her foster family has found that kindness, consistency, and lots of love have helped her make wonderful progress, and she continues to gain confidence every week.
Ricci absolutely loves going for walks and walks beautifully on a leash. In fact, regular walks are important because they are her favorite way to do her business. She will happily trot along beside you, taking in the sights and greeting friendly neighbors when her canine companions do. Rain, however, is another story! This little lady thinks wet grass and soggy paws are simply beneath her, so don’t be surprised if she gives you a look that says, “Really?”
Ricci enjoys the company of other dogs and looks to them for comfort, confidence, and guidance. Because having a canine companion will help her continue to feel secure and thrive, Ricci will need another friendly dog already living in her adoptive home. She enjoys playing with other dogs, although because she is such a tiny girl, she appreciates companions who are not overly rough or energetic.
She has done well with calm children and enjoys meeting gentle people. Her ideal home will be one where everyone understands that quiet voices and patient handling help her feel safe and secure.
Ricci is crate trained and happily trots into her crate at bedtime or when her family is away for a few hours. She enjoys cozy dog beds, chew toys, and will gladly curl up beside you for an evening of relaxation. Just remember to keep books and paper picked up—she sometimes mistakes them for chew toys!
Ricci is looking for an adopter who will continue helping her build confidence through gentle encouragement, a dependable routine, regular walks, and the reassuring companionship of another friendly dog. In return, you will receive endless love, joyful greetings, sweet cuddles, and the privilege of watching a once-shy little girl continue to blossom into the happy companion she was always meant to be.
If you are looking for a tiny dog with a huge heart, a quirky smile, and an endless supply of love to give, Ricci may be the perfect addition to your family. 💕
Ricci's adoption will take place in her foster home in Essex, Maryland. Her adoption fee is $500. She is up-to-date on all her medical and has been micro chipped. For more information - please go to rescuedhavanese.org/adoption

UPDATE 7/24/26 - ADOPTED !

Hi! I'm Toby!

My name is Toby, and I was born on Valentine's Day 2024. I currently weigh about 14 pounds, the perfect size for cuddling, playing, and being your constant companion! I was surrendered to rescue because my family could no longer keep me. It had absolutely nothing to do with meI didn't do anything wrong. Sometimes life changes, and families have to make difficult decisions. Thankfully, HALO stepped in to help me find the forever family I deserve.

My foster mom says I'm a sweet, affectionate boy who loves people and wants to be part of everything that's going on.

When someone says "Up!" I know exactly what that means, and I'm more than happy to jump into their arms for cuddles. I never pass up an opportunity for pets, belly rubs, or snuggle time.

I also love meeting people! Visitors don't stay strangers for long because I make it my mission to introduce myself and collect some pets.

When it's playtime, I'm all in! I enjoy toys and having fun, and one of my very favorite things is running and playing in a safely fenced yard. I wear my harness nicely and can walk on a leash, although I'm still working on becoming a leash-walking expert.

At bedtime, I sleep in my x-pen like a good boy. I'm doing well with my potty habits tooI can potty outside or use a potty pad indoors.

I really, really love attention. If I think I'm missing out on some, I might let you know with a little whining. My foster says that's something I'm still working on. I can also be a bit unsure around large dogs, so I'd probably be happiest with smaller canine friends.

I'm always ready to love, play, cuddle, and make people smile. I love being with my humans, whether we're relaxing on the couch, playing in the yard, or just spending time together.

If you're looking for a loyal little companion who wants to be your best friend, couch buddy, playmate, and shadow all rolled into one, I just might be your guy.

Love,
Toby

Hi, I’m Kelce!
I’m a gentle, tender-hearted girl who’s still discovering just how kind and beautiful the world can be. I can be a little shy at first, but I have so much love to give. If you’re patient with me, I’ll slowly open my heart—and once I do, you’ll be rewarded with the sweetest snuggles, soft kisses, and quiet moments together, especially at bedtime and in the morning.
Other dogs are my comfort and my confidence, so I must have a friendly dog already in my forever home. Having a doggy buddy helps me feel safe and brave—and it’s also how I’ve learned that playing can be so much fun! I’ve started doing the happiest little zoomies with my friends, and it’s truly when I shine.
I’m potty trained, have lovely house manners, and am perfectly content hanging out with my dog pals while you’re away. I enjoy peaceful walks, ride calmly in the car, and my favorite place in the world is anywhere cozy and close to my people—especially a warm spot on the couch or snuggled in bed.
I do best with kind, patient humans who will let me go at my own pace. Once I trust you, I’ll be your loyal little shadow. If you have a friendly pup and are looking for a soft, soulful companion, I might be your perfect match.

UPDATE 5/21/2026 - ADOPTED!
Meet Tulip 🌷

Tulip is a beautiful little soul with the sweetest smile and the softest heart. Born on 9/24/22, this tiny girl weighs just 7.8 lbs and is learning more every day that people can be kind, gentle, and loving. Once she trusts you, Tulip absolutely melts for affection — especially face massages, which are one of her favorite things in the world. She will look up at you with warm eyes and a smile that is impossible not to fall in love with.

This playful girl LOVES to run and play. She is fast, joyful, and so much fun to watch as she zooms around the yard. Tulip also has an adorable little “meerkat sit” and will happily spin in circles for treats like she’s performing her own happy dance.

Tulip has made wonderful progress in foster care. She walks beautifully on a leash, is comfortable wearing a harness, sleeps quietly in her crate at night, and enjoys relaxing on cozy dog beds near her people. While she enjoys being close to her person, she is not demanding and is perfectly content lounging nearby on the rug or floor.

Like many mill dogs, Tulip is still building confidence, especially around men and unfamiliar sounds. She has formed a strong bond with her foster mom and happily seeks out pets and affection from her. She can still be nervous around her foster dad, but with patience, treats, and gentle encouragement, she continues to improve. Because of this, Tulip will need an adopter who understands shy dogs and will allow her the time she needs to fully blossom.

Tulip gets along wonderfully with other dogs and enjoys having canine companionship. She would do best in a patient, loving home with another friendly dog to help continue building her confidence, so another dog in the home is a must.

Tulip is up-to-date on her medical care and is microchipped. Her adoption fee is $500. If you are interested in adopting Tulip, her adoption would take place in her foster home in San Antonio, FL.

If you are looking for a sweet, playful little companion whose trust will feel like the greatest gift, Tulip may be your girl. 🌸
