Summerville High School — we’re looking for mentors!

Beacons Mentoring is continuing to grow, and we’re looking for caring adults who are willing to show up consistently and invest in students at Summerville High School.

Mentoring doesn’t require having all the answers. It starts with being present, listening, encouraging, and giving a student another trusted adult in their corner.

Our mentors meet with students once a week for about 30 minutes during the school year, building relationships that can make a meaningful difference over time.

If you’ve ever considered becoming a mentor, this is a great time to get involved.

Recently, the Beacons Leading Ladies at Summerville Elementary kicked off their first day with mentees with a favorite tradition—a picnic! 🙂

Thank you to Jenna Lombardy, who leads the group, and our volunteer mentors for being there for these students. We’re looking forward to a school year of friendship, encouragement, and time together!

What a blessing it is to see a room packed on a Saturday morning with people who have one thing in common—a heart for serving our youth.

As we prepare for another season of Beacons Mentoring, our mentors came together to learn, grow, and better understand how to approach the conversations and situations we may encounter with our students.

A huge thank you to Dr. Rob Bullard with the Kay Phillips Children’s Advocacy Center and Dr. Beth Fiorito, Middle School Director for Dorchester District 2, for spending their Saturday morning with us. Your knowledge, guidance, and investment in our mentors will make a difference far beyond that room. Thank you for helping equip our team to serve our students well.

We are also incredibly grateful to Dorchester District 2 for their continued partnership and support of Beacons Mentoring, including allowing us to use their center to bring everyone together.

And last, but certainly not least—THANK YOU to every single mentor who has signed up and committed to showing up for a young person this year. Your time matters. Your presence matters. And the relationships you build can have an impact that lasts a lifetime.

We are incredibly blessed as an organization, and seeing that room full Saturday morning was another reminder of just how special this group has become.

As we celebrate the 250th birthday of the United States, we’re reminded that the strength of our nation has never come from monuments or moments alone—it has always come from people willing to invest in the next generation.

At The Beacons, mentorship is our way of honoring America’s promise. Every conversation, every encouraging word, and every hour spent with a young person helps light the path toward a brighter future.

Freedom is preserved when values are passed on. Leadership is strengthened when it’s modeled. Hope grows when someone simply shows up.

This Independence Day, we celebrate the blessings of liberty while recommitting ourselves to raising young men and women of character, courage, compassion, and purpose.

Happy 4th of July, and happy 250th birthday, America! May we continue to be a nation that shines its light brightly by investing in those who will carry it forward.

Today, we want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Summerville Rotary Lunch Club for their generous grant in support of Beacons Mentoring.

Partnerships like this make a lasting difference in the lives of the young people we serve. This gift is more than a financial contribution—it is an investment in our students, their futures, and the relationships that help them thrive.

Because of your generosity, we will be able to continue creating opportunities, providing support, and ensuring that our littles have the resources and encouragement they need to succeed.

Thank you for believing in our mission and for being a blessing to our organization and the children we serve. We are honored to have community partners like the Summerville Rotary Lunch Club standing alongside us as we work to make a positive impact in the lives of the next generation.

This Memorial Day, all of us at Beacons Mentoring take time to honor and remember the brave men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

Because of their courage and selflessness, generations of Americans have been blessed with the freedoms and opportunities we enjoy today. As mentors, we believe it is important not only to remember these heroes, but also to teach the next generation the value of service, sacrifice, honor, and love for others.

We are reminded of the words in John 15:13:“Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”

Today we pray for the families of our fallen heroes, especially the Gold Star families who continue to carry their loved ones’ legacy forward with strength and grace.

May we never forget those who gave everything so that others could live free. Their sacrifice will always be remembered and honored.

From our Beacons family to yours, we wish you a meaningful and reflective Memorial Day. 🇺🇸

At Beacons Mentoring, we are constantly reminded just how blessed we are — not only in the support we receive, but in the opportunities we are given to pay those blessings forward.

This week, we received the largest donation in our organization’s history thanks to the incredible generosity of the wonderful organization Junior Service League of Summerville. Their belief in our mission and in the young people we serve means more than words can express.

And in the very same week, we were able to turn around and bless one of our own mentees with an opportunity that could truly impact his future. Thanks to the dedication and heart of our lead mentor at Newington, Jim Bailey, funds were secured to send one of our brightest students on an out-of-state trip — an experience and opportunity many young people his age may never get to experience.

Moments like these remind us why we do what we do.

We are deeply grateful for our community, our supporters, our mentors, and most importantly, God, for continuing to use Beacons as a vessel to pour blessings back into the community. Watching generosity come full circle is something truly special.

Thank you to everyone who continues to believe in this mission. The impact is real, and lives are being changed every day.
