The Beacons

The Beacons The definition of a beacon is a person or thing that warns, guides or offers support.

A friend who offers direction and guidance is an example of a beacon for someone in need.

Today, we want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Summerville Rotary Lunch Club for their generous grant in support of Beacons Mentoring.

Partnerships like this make a lasting difference in the lives of the young people we serve. This gift is more than a financial contribution—it is an investment in our students, their futures, and the relationships that help them thrive.

Because of your generosity, we will be able to continue creating opportunities, providing support, and ensuring that our littles have the resources and encouragement they need to succeed.

Thank you for believing in our mission and for being a blessing to our organization and the children we serve. We are honored to have community partners like the Summerville Rotary Lunch Club standing alongside us as we work to make a positive impact in the lives of the next generation.

This Memorial Day, all of us at Beacons Mentoring take time to honor and remember the brave men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

Because of their courage and selflessness, generations of Americans have been blessed with the freedoms and opportunities we enjoy today. As mentors, we believe it is important not only to remember these heroes, but also to teach the next generation the value of service, sacrifice, honor, and love for others.

We are reminded of the words in John 15:13:“Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”

Today we pray for the families of our fallen heroes, especially the Gold Star families who continue to carry their loved ones’ legacy forward with strength and grace.

May we never forget those who gave everything so that others could live free. Their sacrifice will always be remembered and honored.

From our Beacons family to yours, we wish you a meaningful and reflective Memorial Day. 🇺🇸

At Beacons Mentoring, we are constantly reminded just how blessed we are — not only in the support we receive, but in the opportunities we are given to pay those blessings forward.

This week, we received the largest donation in our organization’s history thanks to the incredible generosity of the wonderful organization Junior Service League of Summerville. Their belief in our mission and in the young people we serve means more than words can express.

And in the very same week, we were able to turn around and bless one of our own mentees with an opportunity that could truly impact his future. Thanks to the dedication and heart of our lead mentor at Newington, Jim Bailey, funds were secured to send one of our brightest students on an out-of-state trip — an experience and opportunity many young people his age may never get to experience.

Moments like these remind us why we do what we do.

We are deeply grateful for our community, our supporters, our mentors, and most importantly, God, for continuing to use Beacons as a vessel to pour blessings back into the community. Watching generosity come full circle is something truly special.

Thank you to everyone who continues to believe in this mission. The impact is real, and lives are being changed every day.

Love this mission and what SHS orchestrated for these young men. Happy the Beacons were able to provide some assistance and join other men in helping teach this skill set. Scotty Kachelmier and Skip Williams.

Beacons had the privilege of helping out Public Works Art Center for their kids camp and device free night. Just like a middle school dance, guys were outside playing basketball while the ladies were inside with paint and crafts. We had a great night and loved seeing kids make new connections and leave the device behind.

What an incredible day investing in the future of our students! 🙌

Our Beacons Mentoring group from Greg Middle School had the opportunity to tour the Career & Technology building at Summerville High School, where we explored the biometric lab—and it was nothing short of inspiring. From hands-on technology to real-world career pathways, our students were able to see what’s possible when education meets opportunity.

Moments like these matter. Exposure creates vision, and vision fuels purpose. We’re so grateful for the educators and staff who took the time to pour into our students, answer questions, and open doors to what their futures can hold.

It’s a blessing to walk alongside these young leaders as they discover their gifts and begin to dream bigger. Thank you to everyone who makes experiences like this possible—together, we are building something truly special. 💙 Jessica Watts Schaefer

In a world where our children are growing up connected more than ever, guiding them through the digital space has never been more important. As a mentoring community, we see firsthand how critical it is to equip both kids and families with the tools to navigate the internet safely and wisely.

We to encourage all families to take advantage of an upcoming event hosted by SeaCoast Church focused on internet safety. This is a powerful opportunity to learn practical ways to protect your children, have meaningful conversations, and create healthy boundaries in an ever-changing digital world.

When we come together as a community—parents, mentors, and leaders—we can better safeguard the next generation and help them grow with confidence and discernment.

We’re grateful for partners like SeaCoast Church who are investing in our families and our future. Let’s continue to stand together, support one another, and lead our children well. 💛

Grateful to Steven Jackson for coming to Alston Bailey to speak to our young men about his experiences with Baseball and life. Time like this gives these young men a direction in their compass that will hopefully point them to success beyond the trials. Thank you to Scotty Kachelmier for organizing.

Need to find this gentleman! This is what we strive for at The Beacons and he is killing it! Love the work he is doing with these young men outside the school walls.
