🐴 In 2009, a mosquito bite changed Roxanne Trunnell's life forever. What seemed like a minor illness turned into H1N1, then encephalitis, then a stroke that left the 23-year-old with cerebellar ataxia and a wheelchair she'd need for the rest of her life. Trunnell had ridden horses almost since she could walk, competing in able-bodied dressage before her diagnosis, and she refused to let it end there. She turned to para-dressage, a discipline where riders with physical disabilities are matched by grade and compete at the highest levels of the sport, and eventually found her partner in a horse named Dolton. At the Tokyo Paralympic Games in 2021, the pair delivered a ride so precise it earned a Paralympic record score β€” and with it, the United States' first equestrian gold medal in twenty-five years. It was the country's first individual gold in the sport since 1996. Trunnell didn't stop there; she and Dolton added a second gold in the freestyle event days later, cementing one of the most dominant performances in the sport's history. Every stride in that arena represented years of relearning her own body, trusting a horse to carry what she no longer could alone, and proving that a diagnosis is not a ceiling.
What milestone have you seen someone reach that most people assumed was impossible for them?

At our recent fundraiser, the Verona Moose Lodge presented our organization with an extremely generous check. Guy Landrum, a longtime supporter of Ride With Pride, presented the check on their behalf. We were honored to receive $5000 from Guy and the Verona Moose Lodge and we thank them so much for their commitment to Ride With Pride and our work with the special needs people in our community.
