doesn’t care about democracy.

He knows that vast subsidies for the development of sports stadiums to generate private profits are unpopular.

He also knows that two years ago, Kansas City voters rejected a new stadium after Sherman refused to meet our common sense demands for good union jobs and affordable housing with a new ballpark district.

Now, instead of respecting the will of the same electorate, he is doing everything in his power to avoid giving the people the final say — all to make his billionaire friends even richer.

$600 million is a lot of money.

It's enough to :
Hire teachers.
Fix roads.
Improve parks.
Build homes.

Because every dollar spent there is a dollar that can't be spent here.

That's why this conversation matters.

Kansas City is being told there isn't enough money for everything we need.

So before we hand over hundreds of millions in public money for a stadium, it's worth asking:

What could we build instead? We have few ideas, swipe through to see ->

And save to send to anyone—including certain elected officials—who might need a refresher on priorities. 😉

The mayor’s response to the stadium petition is deeply disrespectful and anti-democratic at a time when we’re descending into fascism.

Thousands of us signed our names because we want a say in what happens in our city–with our money! That is not “noise.” That is democracy in action.

Kansas Citians are not some obstacle to get around. We are the reason government exists in the first place.

So whether city hall finds it inconvenient or not, is irrelevant.

Sorry, Mayor Lucas, but you don't just get to decide to ignore us. You and owner billionaire John Sherman are no kings.

WE THE PEOPLE will have the final say.

⚖️💥When we fight, we win💥⚖️

After years of taking their demands to Jeff City, Missouri lawmakers just passed the “Clean Slate Initiative,” a state policy that will grant hundreds of thousands of Missourians automatic expungement of certain nonviolent arrest and conviction records!

As longtime fast food worker and MWC leader Fran Marion said:

In our movement, we are fighting for unity and equality on ALL fronts. We can’t talk about having a record without discussing the root causes of crimes like the one I committed, the poverty wages that landed me in this situation in the first place.

Since then, my record has locked me into low-wage jobs and unsafe housing. I served my time, but this record feels like a life sentence that punishes me and my kids. A clean slate brings our state one step closer to the America Langston Hughes envisioned:

"Let America be America… where opportunity is real, and life is free. Where equality is in the air we breathe."

We the People are ANGRY — here in Missouri and across the South — about SCOTUS gutting the Voting Rights Act of 1965, and the rollback of civil rights protections that had brought us closer to achieving racial justice in America.

And we are TIRED of racist gerrymandering that divides our communities and threatens our chance at multiracial representation that actually reflects who we are and what we value.

Join us tomorrow to say NO to gerrymandering in Missouri and YES to an America that means liberty and justice for all.

“Authoritarianism is happening right in our backyard, y’all. We can’t wait for these things to just magically change. We need to tax the rich and win an economy that puts workers over billionaires!”

and MWC leader Terrence Wise joined thousands of working Missourians on May Day to stand up to the bosses, billionaires, and bigoted politicians.

Terrence knows the power of worker organizing: he took action with low-wage workers for over a decade to win our state’s $15 minimum wage! Now, he’s fighting for a Missouri that works for ALL of us, not just an elite minority.

🗞 MWC leader and Kaldi's Coffee worker Shayne Clegg in NPR: “Workers in this country are fed up. We're tired. We're facing a lot of issues from this current authoritarian regime that we are under. Billionaires are getting all of the control. Workers are suffering. We're having to pay more. We're not able to afford things to feed our families.”

That’s exactly why Shayne rose up with working people from every corner of the country for the May Day economic boycott and general strike. Together, we sent a clear message to the authoritarians and billionaires who think workers will stay divided and defeated: 🚫You’re wrong!🚫

He’s won raises, equipment repairs, and paid sick time by taking action with his coworkers at Kaldi’s. Now, he’s building the multiracial worker-led movement to stand together, get loud, and TAKE what we’re owed!

“We are NOT the enemy! A fascist regime is. The corporations squeezing us are. The racist state lawmakers stealing our freedoms are.” 📣

worker Iana McAllister joined the nationwide day of disruption on May Day because she knows the power of collective action.

It’s how she and her coworkers at Skinker won their initial vote for a union. It’s how they got majority worker support on their petition demanding Kaldi’s become a 4th Amendment Business that protects workers and denies entry to ICE.

And like Iana said, it’s how working people will win a country where *we* call the shots — not an elite minority:

“They want power over us. But without OUR labor, THEY don’t get to be billionaires. That’s why I didn’t work today!”

🗣️No billionaires in our backyards! 🗣️

On May Day, suburban, urban, and rural Missourians said loud and proud: we don’t want dirty data centers that threaten our jobs, our water and energy, and our way of life.

We blared speakers outside government buildings and Evergy headquarters, to give them a taste of their AI data centers’ noise pollution. We led teach-ins, car caravans, and protests to call out lawmakers who side with developers over their constituents.

All of us deserve to live in healthy communities, make a good living, and have a say-so in the decisions that affect our lives. When tech billionaires threaten those freedoms, the Show-Me state is ready to show them:

The many ✊🏿✊🏼✊🏽 will defeat the money ❌🎩!
