Since receiving an IACT Leadership Award in 2022, the The Eco-Friendly Mobile Farm Stand Project has continued expanding its network of electric farm stands in Chicago.

The project helps urban farmers deliver fresh, locally grown produce and nutrition education to residents experiencing food insecurity without the cost of gasoline or tailpipe pollution. By connecting clean transportation with urban agriculture, the project supports farmers, improves food access and helps build healthier, more sustainable communities.

The Forest Preserve District of Cook County is proposing two new ordinances for its public EV charging stations. The proposed measures would establish fees for EV charging and create parking rules for charging spaces, including fines for vehicles that occupy a charging space without charging or remain beyond the posted time limit.

Together, the ordinances would help the District manage access to its growing EV charging network while recovering the costs of providing charging services. We're excited about these next steps towards operating chargers at preserves.

IACT is partnering with the American Lung Association to help both public and private fleets pursue funding through the U.S. EPA’s 2026 Diesel Emissions Reduction Act (DERA) National Grants program.

The program can help fleets replace older diesel trucks and equipment with cleaner vehicles, including battery-electric trucks.

Since private fleets can't apply for DERA directly, the Lung Association will prepare and submit applications on behalf of interested fleets, at no charge to those fleets. IACT will provide education and outreach to help fleets understand the program and whether their vehicles qualify.

Illinois fleets interested in participating should contact Bethany Kraseman at [email protected] by December 4, 2026. EPA’s application deadline is January 22, 2027.

What will the future of freight look like? It won’t be powered by just one fuel or technology.

Join the Illinois Alliance for Clean Transportation on February 25, 2027, in Joliet for our first-ever Fueling Illinois’ Freight Future summit.

This technology-neutral event will bring together fleets, logistics operators, ports, intermodal operators, fuel and technology providers, and public-sector partners to explore practical applications for biodiesel, renewable diesel, ethanol, propane, CNG/LNG/RNG, hydrogen, and electricity.

Hosted at the Autobahn Country Club in the heart of North America’s largest inland intermodal freight hub, the summit will combine policy and planning discussions with hands-on demonstrations and a ride-and-drive experience.

The U.S. EPA has officially released the 2026 Diesel Emissions Reduction Act (DERA) Notice of Funding Opportunity, making about $180 million in competitive funding available to accelerate upgrades, retrofits, and turnover of the nation’s legacy diesel fleet.

For Illinois applicants, there’s an important opportunity to know about: Illinois is part of EPA Region 5, which has approximately $18.2 million available. Region 5 also has the highest per-application funding cap of any EPA region, with up to $8 million available per application.

Each applicant can submit up to two applications per region, and EPA anticipates making roughly 120 awards nationwide. Applications are due January 22, 2027.
