With profound sorrow, we announce the line-of-duty death of Van Zandt County Deputy Sheriff Adam Sherifi.

Deputy Sherifi was shot and killed while assisting Canton police officers in serving felony warrants for aggravated assault and aggravated assault on a peace officer at a residence in the 4300 block of State Highway 198 in Van Zandt County.

At approximately 10:22 p.m., shots were fired from inside the home toward deputies and officers outside. During the exchange of gunfire, Deputy Sherifi was mortally wounded and died at the scene.

A Canton police officer was also wounded and transported to a local hospital. The suspect was later found deceased inside the residence.

Deputy Sherifi leaves behind his wife and three children. Our hearts and prayers are with his family, colleagues, and all who are mourning this devastating loss.
