🎨🚗 GPWS Road Trip #1 – Dell Rapids! 🚗🎨

Join us on Saturday, June 20, for the first GPWS Road Trip of the season! We're heading to Dell Rapids for a day filled with art, inspiration, and camaraderie.

Our host, Jeannie Ammon, has planned a wonderful day beginning with plein air painting at the beautiful Healing Gardens and Labyrinth located in the north section of the Dell Rapids Cemetery (East 15th Street). These peaceful, spiritual gardens provide a unique and inspiring setting for artists of all levels.

Bring your painting gear, a sack lunch, and consider arranging a carpool with fellow artists.

🕙 10:00 AM – Plein Air Painting at the Healing Gardens

🕛 12:00 PM – Lunch and sharing our morning paintings
(Weather permitting at the gardens, or at Jeannie's studio)

🕐 1:00 PM – Sterling Edwards-style Still Life Painting Lesson
Hosted at Jeannie's studio (312 E. 9th St., Dell Rapids)

Attend the entire day or join us for just the morning paint-out or the afternoon lesson—whatever fits your schedule!

We're excited to try a Saturday event and hope you'll be part of this special day of creativity, learning, and friendship.

🎨☔ First Plein Air Event of the Season! ☔🎨

Our first plein air gathering of the season at Lyon Park may have been rainy and wet, but that didn't stop the creativity! Despite the weather, artists came together to paint, connect, and enjoy the beauty of creating outdoors. Thank you to everyone who braved the elements and made it such a fun and memorable start to the season.

Bring your art supplies and take in the landscape while connecting with fellow artists. Whether you’re new to plein air or experienced, it’s a great opportunity to practice, share ideas, and welcome the season together. Street parking on Phillips Avenue. Items of interest park shelter, plantings, historical cannon.

New Adventure Series: Road Trips with GPWS Member Hosts!

The Great Plains Watercolor Society is taking creativity on the road with new member-hosted day trips to towns beyond Sioux Falls! Join fellow artists for inspiring weekday adventures filled with plein air painting, local scenery, and artistic connection.

Each trip will feature opportunities to paint outdoors, explore charming communities across the region, and enjoy optional art-related activities hosted by GPWS members.

Possible activities include:
• Plein air watercolor painting
• Sketchbook journaling/drawing
• Local studio visits
• Scenic parks, gardens, and downtowns
• Lunch and creative conversation with fellow artists

These relaxed one-day outings are a great way to discover new places, share artistic inspiration, and build community with other watercolor enthusiasts. Pack a lunch, grab a friend, bring your adventurous spirit and drive to any of the events that fit in your calendar.

What an incredible gathering with the Great Plains Watercolor Society! 🎨

I was thrilled to see such an excellent turnout, with so many joining us for an afternoon of creativity, connection, and inspiration. A special thank you to Victoria Wilde, our featured presenter, who led a wonderful painting session focused on different ways to prepare canvas for watercolor and even brought supplies to share with us. In just a couple of hours, attendees gained hands-on experience and valuable techniques to take home!

Thank you to everyone who came out and made the event so memorable. We can’t wait to do it again—keep painting and keep exploring and see you next month!
