South Dakotans for Healthy Families (SDHF) is a non-profit corporation organized and operated exclusively for the promotion and improvement of the social welfare of South Dakota by advocating for public policies that support healthy families. Organized in 2006, SDCHF led a coalition which successfully referred an abortion ban to a vote of the people using an all-volunteer force. South Dakotans rejected the 2006 abortion ban by an 11 point margin. In 2008, another abortion ban was on the ballot. SDCHF led the opposition. South Dakotans rejected Initiated Measure 11 abortion ban by a 10-point margin. Fourteen years later we find ourselves in another fight against a South Dakota abortion ban. The US Supreme Court case Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision overturned Row v. Wade and South Dakota’s Trigger Law has gone into effect - banning abortion in South Dakota. Whether it be state legislation, ballot measures, or electoral work we must act to make sure people regain their freedom to control their own bodies and safely care for their families in South Dakota. We are joining together with individuals and organizations to fight this extreme law and stop government intrusion in personal, private reproductive healthcare decisions.
