Dear Valued Customers,
It is with heavy hearts that we write to share news we never imagined putting on paper: after 124 years of serving Sioux Falls and the surrounding region, Shipley’s Garment Spa will be closing its doors. This was not an easy decision, nor was it one made lightly or quickly. After considerable thought and reflection, a number of factors coming together at the same time have brought us to this difficult crossroads. Significant health issues, economic headwinds, changes within our industry, and the critical shortage of employees, have all played a part in this tough decision. Taken together, these circumstances have led us to conclude that closing the business is the most prudent path forward for our family and for a business that has meant so much to us.
Important Closing Dates
• Our final day of production will be October 22, 2026. Items must be dropped off at our office by 9a.m. that day to be cleaned.
• Our office will remain open for pickups and phone calls through November 6.
• Route Customers —We had intended to continue route pickup and delivery services through our final weeks of operation. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances and our ongoing employee shortage, we are no longer able to provide route services effective immediately. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.
You are still welcome to bring your laundry and dry cleaning directly to our office and we will gladly take care of it through our final day of operation on October 22.
Since Shipley’s was established in 1902, much has changed, but the commitment to caring for our customers and their garments has remained. We consider it an absolute blessing to have carried on this tradition and to have been part of the fabric of the Sioux Falls community for so long. Most of all, we simply want to say thank you, to every customer who has walked through our doors—whether for a few years, a few decades, or through multiple generations—thank you for your loyalty, your friendship, and the trust you have placed in Shipley’s. Your patronage is the reason this business has been able to serve our community for more than a century. As we close, we do so with tremendous gratitude for the customers, employees, relationships, and memories that have made Shipley’s Garment Spa what it is.
