🏁 Rev those engines, Sioux Falls! 🏁

The Sioux Falls Noon Sertoma Shine and Show Car Show is coming up on August 9th, and we are already getting excited for a day full of classic cars, community fun, great food by the Sertoma Pit Boys, music from John Smalls with Sunny Radio, and a whole lot of shine!

We also want to give a big congratulations to our very own Jim Hazelwood on taking home 3rd Place today at the Sioux Empire Ford Club All Ford Car Show! Way to represent, Jim! 👏🚗

Now we want to see even more amazing rides, proud owners, families, friends, and community supporters come out for our show. Whether you have a car to show off or just love checking them out, this is the perfect event to bring the whole family.

Proceeds benefit the Sertoma Legacy All Abilities Playground, helping us create a space where children of all abilities can play, grow, and belong.

Amelia Talkington , a young member of the club, was the member spotlight for Tuesday, May 26th. Amelia was born in Panama City, Florida, where she was raised by her father, Wade, and mother, Juliann, along with her grandmothers, Dalene and Rebecca, as an only child. Her family moved quite a bit growing up, so she's lived in 5 states so far, including Florida, Nevada, California, Arizona, and now South Dakota. She went to Renascence School International for K-12, where she learned Mandarin and Spanish. She went on to study at Stanford University, then later on at the University of Arizona.
Amelia's done a lot of research in her career, including serving as an invited researcher at the University of Arizona Plant Sciences lab, a Robotics Software programmer at the UC Irvine CARL lab, a Colloidal Simulations Researcher at the Stanford University Zia lab, and a Signal processing researcher at the Stanford University Bao research group. She’s been a marketing intern at True Drinks Inc, done marketing and graphic design for Juliann’s City Council campaign, and designed a company logo for Nanomoneo, Inc.
She’s worked as a regulatory coordinator at Mackenna Labs in Fullerton, CA, a project leader for AKtore Inc in Phoenix, AZ, and now she’s a scale-up engineer at Elect Nano, Mechnano in Mesa, AZ. There’s not a lot she could share as she’s under an NDA, but at the moment, they clean, debundle, and functionalize materials for 3D printing along with a whole host of other things.
Amelia loves playing soccer, beach volleyball, hiking, running, painting, and traveling. She was a competitive swimmer for 12 years, setting records that have yet to be beaten. She loves learning a little about a lot and widening her scope of knowledge, truly taking the Jack of all trades to heart. She’s a bit of a nomad, so she loves to explore and live in new places, hoping to move out of the country eventually.
We love having her part of our organization!!

Christine Erickson, a woman who built her life around a lifetime of service and commitment to the community. She spoke to the club on Tuesday the 19th about her life and her plans if she won the mayoral race. Christine grew up in Rapid City with her parents and three brothers where she was taught the value of community service and giving back. She’s now taught her kids the same values and has spent her time in organizations including, but not limited to, the South Dakota Department of Revenue, South Dakota House of Representatives, and Sioux Falls City Council. She was a business owner for the last 20 years running corporate furnished housing for travel nurses. For the last 5 years Christine has been the president of South Dakota Auto Dealers Association and the South Dakota Trucking Association.
Her three cornerstones for her campaign are public safety, the economy, and diversity. She wants to work with and support the law enforcement to create a safe environment for people to live and work peacefully here in Sioux Falls. Christine wants to work on criminal justice reform and on mental health and mental health prevention in the community in order to create a safer community. For the economy, the Erickson administration will be as nimble as possible to try to do more with less and will work on taxation so as to not tax people out of their homes. She has previously worked on meaningful property tax relief for homeowners that need it. Diversity means a lot to her as she doesn’t ever want to work in an ecochamber, she wants to hear different voices, thoughts, and solutions. She wants to be challenged and held accountable by the people she is working with. Her leadership table is rooted in transparency, accountability, and service back to the public.
Christine wants to remind everyone that the government works for us, the citizens, and she’ll take a balanced approach in order to help serve. Remember to vote June 2nd.
