Amelia Talkington , a young member of the club, was the member spotlight for Tuesday, May 26th. Amelia was born in Panama City, Florida, where she was raised by her father, Wade, and mother, Juliann, along with her grandmothers, Dalene and Rebecca, as an only child. Her family moved quite a bit growing up, so she's lived in 5 states so far, including Florida, Nevada, California, Arizona, and now South Dakota. She went to Renascence School International for K-12, where she learned Mandarin and Spanish. She went on to study at Stanford University, then later on at the University of Arizona.
Amelia's done a lot of research in her career, including serving as an invited researcher at the University of Arizona Plant Sciences lab, a Robotics Software programmer at the UC Irvine CARL lab, a Colloidal Simulations Researcher at the Stanford University Zia lab, and a Signal processing researcher at the Stanford University Bao research group. She’s been a marketing intern at True Drinks Inc, done marketing and graphic design for Juliann’s City Council campaign, and designed a company logo for Nanomoneo, Inc.
She’s worked as a regulatory coordinator at Mackenna Labs in Fullerton, CA, a project leader for AKtore Inc in Phoenix, AZ, and now she’s a scale-up engineer at Elect Nano, Mechnano in Mesa, AZ. There’s not a lot she could share as she’s under an NDA, but at the moment, they clean, debundle, and functionalize materials for 3D printing along with a whole host of other things.
Amelia loves playing soccer, beach volleyball, hiking, running, painting, and traveling. She was a competitive swimmer for 12 years, setting records that have yet to be beaten. She loves learning a little about a lot and widening her scope of knowledge, truly taking the Jack of all trades to heart. She’s a bit of a nomad, so she loves to explore and live in new places, hoping to move out of the country eventually.
We love having her part of our organization!!
