A Little Update - A New Beginning ❤️

The movers came on the 6th, and what I thought would be one load turned into two. Even after purging and downsizing, moving my office added more than I realized. Unfortunately, there was a misunderstanding when the move was booked, and finishing everything that night would have cost another $1,000—something I simply couldn’t do.

Thankfully, the four movers offered to come back Sunday to finish the job. And once again, God provided. I went to the mailbox and found a donation that covered the cost of the movers for Sunday. I’m continually amazed at how God cares about even the smallest details.

Your support has helped me with food, gas, moving expenses, and all the unexpected costs that come with starting over. I am so incredibly grateful.

One of the hardest parts has been packing up Kit’s things from our home in Simsbury—his office, his notes, his drums. There is so much sadness and loss in that. But Jesus continues to remind me that I am not alone. He is right here with me, walking beside me through all of this.

Kit is doing well and is still in a wheelchair. I haven’t been able to see him as much as I would like, but now I’m only three minutes away. I can visit him in the evenings, and it seems that being with him and helping him get settled brings some familiarity and comfort. After 54 years of marriage, I understand why. ❤️

I’m beginning to see how God is teaching me to depend on Him in ways I never have before. I don’t know exactly what this new chapter will look like, but I know I have hope because I am not alone.

Thank you for praying, encouraging, and supporting me through this season. Your kindness truly means more than I can say.

I’m hoping to begin seeing people again toward the end of August. Please also pray for the women’s ministry retreat coming up in October at a church in Connecticut.

God is faithful. ❤️

A very hard lesson for each one of us to ponder.

What do we do when we feel we have no other choice but to hold everything and everyone together? The Lord has been teaching me to shift from control to stewardship.

A steward is someone who cares for another person but does not own their issues. I can be a responsible friend, mentor, mom, sister, daughter, and neighbor without taking on the weight of owning others' issues or managing their consequences. I can be a loving person in someone's life, but I cannot be their savior.

Here’s where I know I’ve crossed the line: I need them to be OK for me to be OK, so I hyperextend myself, my resources, my time, and my emotions to make sure they are always OK. All the while, I know they aren’t willing to change, but I hope by rescuing them, this time I will make everything better.

Here are some scripts to say to yourself when you are working on surrendering control and reframing your responsibility:

1. This part is mine to carry ... and that part is God’s.

2. I am willing to live with an outcome that differs from what I wanted.

3. I can have desires for things to improve with this person without feeling like it’s my responsibility to fix what only they can change.

4. I can love them without enabling their poor choices.

Friend, I know how hard it can be to release what you’re holding on to, especially when it involves someone you love. But here’s a crucial truth: What we willingly give up, God promises to take care of. He doesn’t always give us the outcome we want, but He assures us the other person or the hard situation will still be under His tender care.

And that’s the safest place for our souls to land.

Kit is leaving the hospital today and returning to Cherry Brook. I’ll be helping with the transition at both places. He’s more alert and eating better, but still very sleepy and bedridden. This may be his new baseline, and we’ll take it one day at a time. Thank you all for the prayers, love, and support.

UPDATE
Kit is breathing on his own and doing well after a simple procedure to remove the tube. He seems much more alert. They’re keeping oxygen on him for now just to be safe, and his blood gas levels looked good. No seizure activity either. If all continues to go well, they may move him out of ICU tomorrow for a few more days of monitoring as they work to get him back to his baseline. Thank you all for the continued prayers and support.
