About Us:
This is a group for people within communities who are open, ready and willing to discuss, share and grow in their understanding of racism, privilege and division in our communities and within America, and how to counter those issues, enact change and not be passive observers. Our Guiding Principles:
We will develop new and deeper understandings that will lead to change for which we are r

esponsible for cultivating. Our discussions will be guided by material including but not limited to: books, articles, podcasts, documentaries, and movies. Vulnerability is expected and can only be gained if our members feel safe to do so. We are all responsible for maintaining a safe place in how we post, in what we say. Regarding content:
There are times when posts made in this group may depict graphic images and/or contain descriptive content of violence. We do not require content or trigger warnings for these posts (though posters are welcome to include them if they wish.) Please be cognizant of this as you scroll through the page.

As the month comes to a close, let's recognize that Black History should not be focused on for just one month. Black History is the foundation of our nation. Let's celebrate Black culture, elevate Black voices, and learn about Black history EVERYDAY.

This past Sunday, Holding the Door Open, a panel of community leaders, and over 60 participants gathered for a virtual discussion. It was a way for all of us to hold space for one another and listen as these leaders gave us the safe container to process what happened at our US Capitol on Wednesday the 6th.

Then, on Monday HtDO steering committee members Malorie Wells and Melissa Nesti Smith, held a Listening Club through the Simsbury Public Library called Shaping Our Perspectives on Race. Malorie and Melissa led the group of 20 local and non local participants, in open and vulnerable conversations.

Both events facilitated an opportunity to have safe places to process, reflect, and take action!

Our community is in the Farmington Valley but our goal is to bring anti-racism to our entire State. Do you have friends or family that want to be a part of this work? Send them over to our community group- https://www.facebook.com/groups/holdingthedooropen

Do you have opportunities or ideas for Holding the Door Open? Shoot us a message, we would love to chat!
