🌟Board member spotlight time: Ronnie Yates!

Ronnie has served on the board of College Possible Washington since 2022. He holds a bachelor's degree in computer science from Loyola University, New Orleans and currently serves as an Engineering General Manager at Microsoft.

When asked about his connection to the mission of College Possible, he shared a personal story about what higher education means to him and his family:

"My father was the first person in his family to go to college. He once story me a story about when he told his high school counselor that he wanted to be a corporate accountant because he loved working with numbers. His counselor replied, "They aren't going to let you do that!" As a young black man in the 60/70's, that experience both saddened him and motivated him."

"For me, it gave me the drive to get educated and help others do the same. And yes, my father went on to become an account who worked for Marathon Oil Company for over 30 years."

FAFSA season is in full swing!

Last week, access advising specialists and Henry Moe attended a Federal Way Public School District Financial Aid night, helping students and families complete their FAFSA.

We're grateful for this collaboration with the district to ensure students have the support they need.

It's time to kick off Active for Access, College Possible Washington's fall fundraising challenge with an ambitious $20,000 goal!

On November 1, 2026, some of our most dedicated supporters will get Active for Access. Participants will spend the day breaking a sweat through a sport of their choosing (biking, running, hiking, and more) while raising donations on behalf of College Possible Washington.

Join us in welcoming Megan Sebree to the College Possible Washington team!

She's our newest Success Program Advising Specialist, supporting our college students as they work towards earning their degree.

We're especially excited for Megan to join us, as she's a College Possible Oregon alumna herself. When asked what motivated her to apply for this position, she shared:

"I was mentored by College Possible Oregon in a one-year program during my senior year of high school. As a low-income, first-generation student, I felt entirely lost trying to navigate college applications alone. Now having gone through the program and graduating college with minimal debt, I am excited to share my knowledge with students who are attempting to find their path through these complex systems like I did.

We love this full circle moment and know Megan will be a great addition to our team!

In 2007, College Possible Washington's program expanded to include 11th graders. Today, we continue to offer one of the longest support cycles available, starting in students' junior year ending with college degree completion (6+ years).

Our advising specialists regularly meeting with high school juniors to explore their career interests, work on building their college list, research college affordability, and get a head start on their applications.

XinTong, a former Garfield High School student who is now studying at Stanford University, touched on the benefits of this early support:

“Without College Possible, I probably wouldn’t have started preparing until senior year, which would have been incredibly stressful. The regular check-ins helped me stay focused and meet every deadline.”

We're excited to enter the school year with a new addition to our team!

Henry will serve as the Access Program Advising Specialist at Decatur and Thomas Jefferson High School, where he will support students in accessing higher education.

When asked about his personal connection to College Possible's mission, Henry shared:

"I come from a low-income background, and relied heavily on advising services, federal funding, and local scholarships to make my higher education possible. I understand the work it takes to make college possible..."

We can't wait to see the impact Henry will make. 🥳

Our college advising specialists provide targeted, proactive support to foster college enrollment, persistence and graduation by addressing common academic, financial and personal challenges to students’ college success.

This support follows students wherever they go, but the overwhelming majority choose to pursue higher education in Washington State, reflecting the robust industry and opportunity our state offers.

Meet Manmeet Dhami, who has served on the College Possible Washington board for an impressive 8 years!

Manmeet was a first-generation college student who received both her undergraduate and law degree from the University of Washington.

She currently serves as Principal Corporate Counsel at Microsoft, providing legal guidance to the product teams as they develop new features in areas like AI and content. Her expertise in complex problem solving has proven invaluable over the past 8 years.

Before Microsoft, Manmeet worked with Teach For America, where she saw firsthand the obstacles students face in education every day. Combined with her own experience as the first in her family to navigate higher education, these experiences inspired her to seek out opportunities to advance educational equity.

When asked about her personal connection to our mission, she shared:

"As a first-generation college student, I navigated the college application process largely on my own, and I remember how overwhelming and uncertain it felt. That’s why this work matters so much to me. I want to help ensure that other students don’t have to navigate that path alone."
