Garfield High School senior XinTong will soon pack her bags and head to California, bound for Stanford University and the next big chapter of her life. Getting there didn’t happen by accident β€” admission to such a prestigious institution reflects years of hard work and dedication.

From co-founding a youth-led climate action organization to volunteering with a nonprofit that teaches children how to code, XinTong has been hard at work in her community.

This spring, foundry10 partnered with College Possible Washington to distribute scholarship awards to 27 students across Seattle, Renton, and Federal Way.

What makes these scholarships unique?

Awards are distributed directly to students and are eligible to be spent on items beyond tuition, such as gas money to make a longer commute, a new laptop to work on assignments, bedding for their dorm room, or clothes for a new climate.

Anna, who has been with foundry10 for over a decade, shares the importance of students having agency over the funds, stating that:

"In an ideal world, it’s gap funding that allows for a student to have what they need and to feel like they have what they need... being able to show up to class with a laptop that works really can make or break an experience.”

This week, we wrapped up our annual school visit series at Franklin High School!

After a tour of the school, we had the chance to hear directly from students about how College Possible Washington has supported them on their journey to college, followed by a thoughtful reflection on our first year without AmeriCorps.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended a school visit this year and the students who shared their experience!

XinTong knew she wanted to go to college, but as a first-generation student, the application process was unfamiliar territory.

So junior year, she started working with her College Possible advisor, tackling the SAT, building her college list, and getting her personal statement done early so she could stay ahead of the stress.

This spring, she opened an acceptance letter from Stanford University, where she plans to study environmental engineering.

College Possible walks alongside students from that first advising session all the way through college graduation, celebrating every win along the way.

Your generosity ensures that more King County students like XinTong have someone in their corner.
