Here is a picture from the National Trails Day event this past Saturday on the N. Fork Sauk River trail which is the access trail for Glacier Peak.

Shout out to the volunteers from the and the staff of the Darrington District ranger station. The crew carried lumber for a trail project a mile and a half into these magnificant woods of giant timber, and several worked on cutting a 5’ diameter cedar log blocking the trail just beyond that point. Forest Service budgets have taken a big hit in recent years and volunteers help all of us get to where we want to go. Thank you to all who volunteered! 💜

Heading to Phun Rock near Mazama this season?

The parking lot frequently fills up and parking is not allowed along the roadside outside the lot. Please consider going to other nearby crags if the lot is full when you arrive.

Nearby areas like Matrix and Europa offer great alternatives, and there are several other crags in the area worth exploring as well.

The picture above shows a Forest Service team working to stabilize the base of Phun Rock. Methow Valley climbers and our former neighbors who own the parking lot (Pacific Crest Outward Bound School) have also worked to support access here. Currently, the is moving to purchase the parking lot to preserve climber access, and they plan to transfer the lot to the Forest Service .s.forestservice

⚠️ Parking on roadsides where it may be banned or where it may impair traffic or damage fragile roadsides can create problems for local access and may harm our relationships with neighbors, local officials, or land managers. Thanks for doing your part to climb responsibly and help preserve access for the whole community. 💜

The Washington Give BIG campaign’s last day is today! There’s a link in our bio where you can give anything you are able to. There’s a field to type in where you work to check for employee matching as well. Our goal is $5000 which will help us with work we’re doing this year like trail work in Index. (Coming up and not yet announced)

For 22 years you have helped us keep climbing areas open and helped launch new ones as well. We’ve improved access trails, helped manage public lands for wildlife protection, and advised land managers on how to work with outdoor user groups to take care of the land. Please consider donating today. Thank you for your help! 💚
