Lama Rabten Tshering invites us into a day of silent practice together. Known in Tibetan as a nyinthün – a “day session” – this one-day meditation retreat is an opportunity to deepen our meditation practice and strengthen our capacity to benefit ourselves and others.

The day closes with Mahakala practice to remove obstacles on our path and further support our ability to make a positive difference in our world.

Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate Shakyamuni Day (Saka Dawa Düchen) at Nalanda West! May we always be inspired by stories of the Buddha’s life, awakening, and parinirvana! 🙏🏽🧘🏽‍♂️🌈📿

06/01/2026

On the auspicious occasion of Saka Dawa Düchen, Acharya Lama Tenpa Gyaltsen encouraged us to contemplate:

"If you knew that Buddha was alive and wandering this earth, what would you do?"

He also pointed to the importance of bodhicitta — giving rise to bodhicitta is like bringing light into the darkness.

Towards the end of our celebration, Mitra Lee Worley shared about the life of the Buddha and how he eventually embraced the middle way:

"Neither pampering nor abusing the mind, one develops the mind — this is the eightfold path that leads to peace. It is a path of wisdom, of ethics, and of meditation."

Happy Saka Dawa Düchen!

How do we work with our emotions, our relationships, our annoyances, and our challenges to help us act for the benefit of the world?

At the heart of the Mahayana path is the practice of mind training — reorienting our focus from habitual self-cherishing to working for the benefit of all sentient beings. In this four-part series, Acharya Lama Tenpa Gyaltsen guides us through the Eight Verses for Training the Mind and offers guidance on how to bring these teachings into our lives.

Something important can happen if we pause and reflect.

For just a moment, explore:
- What is your mind like right now?
- Can you rest your attention on something simple?
- What happens if you relax, again and again?

In the dharma, even small shifts like this are upaya, skillful means that help us work directly with the mind.
