What happens when someone is given the tools, support, and confidence to recognize their own power?

For Jay, joining Q***r Power Alliance's Civic Engagement Cohort was a turning point.

The experience strengthened their understanding of policy and advocacy, while helping them find their voice as a public speaker and community leader. More than anything, the cohort showed Jay what becomes possible when communities invest in their collective leadership.

Jay's story is a reminder that belonging can grow into leadership, and leadership can grow into collective power.

For Yoshimi, q***r community has been a source of care, connection, and mutual aid through some of life's most challenging moments.

That sense of belonging shaped Yoshimi's path to becoming a social worker, and today they carry that same spirit of care into their work supporting other q***r people on their journeys.

Community can change what becomes possible. Sometimes it means showing up for someone when they need them most. Sometimes it means finding the people who remind you that you don't have to navigate the hard things alone.

BIG NEWS FROM SEATTLE CITY COUNCIL!

Yesterday, Seattle took two important steps toward building a city where people can actually afford to live, and where LGBTQIA+ people know they belong.

🏠 Junk fees are getting trashed.
The Seattle City Council passed legislation banning rental junk fees, such as pet rent, package delivery fees, and certain administrative charges, while requiring landlords to make rental costs clear upfront.

🏳️‍⚧️ $300,000 for trans and q***r community support.
The Council also unanimously approved $300,000 in emergency funding for community organizations supporting trans and q***r people arriving in Seattle from states where their safety and rights are under attack. The funding will help provide essential services including emergency housing, food, employment support, and more.

These aren't abstract values: housing, safety, belonging, and dignity. This is how communities are built.

We're grateful to the community members, organizers, advocates, and elected leaders who keep pushing Seattle to live up to its promise of being a welcoming city.

We're honored to welcome Deaunte Damper as the emcee for Powering Change 2026.

A Seattle-based community advocate, educator, and organizer, Deaunte has dedicated his career to advancing justice, equity, and collective liberation. Through his leadership, he has become a trusted voice for Black and LGBTQIA+ communities, helping build stronger, more connected communities rooted in compassion, accountability, and action. This year, he was recognized as a Seattle Pride Grand Marshal for his extraordinary leadership and service.

We're grateful to have Deaunte help guide an evening of celebration, storytelling, and collective action as we continue building the future we deserve.

Because of partnerships like this, we're able to continue advocating for LGBTQIA+ people, organizing for justice, and creating opportunities to connect, belong, and access the resources needed year-round.

Getting a rent increase notice soon? Here's what Washington law actually allows.

Since 2025, landlords can raise rent by 10% or 7% + inflation — whichever is lower. For 2026, it’s 9.683%.

Your landlord also needs to give you 90 days' written notice (previously 60 days), and they can't raise your rent at all in your first year.
