Help us welcome our new Board member, Dayjha McMillan! ๐Ÿ‘

Dayjha McMillan (they/she) is located in Chief Si'ahl, or Seattle, Washington. Dayjha is the Grantmaking and Database Coordinator for Social Justice Fund NW. A lover of all things sensuous and textile: Dayjha can be found playing Chef as a love language for her beloveds, on long-form urban walks, and searching for excuses to add to their ever-expanding personal library. Theyโ€™re a dreamer and schemer, committed to the lifelong practice of playing as a healing endeavor.

We're excited to have Dayjha join the team. Help us give them a warm welcome in the comments below!

Help us welcome our new Board member, Mike Schloss! ๐Ÿ‘

Mike is a stay-at-home parent who is dedicated to understanding his strengths and weaknesses as a caregiver for his 10- and 12-year-old children. He has more than 20 years of experience working at the University of Washington, Treehouse, and the YMCA of Greater Seattle. He says his children are his "greatest teachers in what it means to be an authentic, compassionate human as well as the importance of not underestimating the power of laughter and play."

We're excited to have Mike join the team. Help us give him a warm welcome in the comments below!

Attacks on nonprofits keep getting worse. Right now, nonprofits are facing increased scrutiny and politicization on the local, state, and national levels.

But what's new, right?

In our latest blog, we share some of the new proposed laws and rules we've been following, explain them, and show how they will affect nonprofits and our communities. We also offer ways for people to stay informed, get involved, and come together.

Last month, our friends at Rise hosted a Growing in Solidarity Panel followed by a Happy Hour in partnership with the Delta Vision Project and El Centro de la Raza.

In addition to the rich wisdom shared at this event, we wanted to share some lessons that emerged from the collaborative process of crafting and hosting it.

๐ŸŽค GIVE THE EXPERTS THE MIC: There is something incredibly powerful about providing the people doing the work space to just speak. We forget this truth often these days, where information is readily available and opinions outnumber the fish in the sea.

๐Ÿ’• WE NEED TO BE TOGETHER: It can be so hard to bring folks together and so easy to overthink what it means to be in space together. Yet, throughout the event, we had so many folks come to us saying how this event allowed them to replenish their souls.

โŒ› BUILDING COMMUNITY TAKES TIME & RESOURCES: We each play a role in creating beloved community. We are all tasked with creating space in our lives to witness one another, listen deeply, and carry one another's burdens.

Huge shout out to all of the folks that made this event possible, everyone who took time to attend, and our other Delta Vision Project partners for sponsoring this event: Byrd Barr Place, Latino Community Fund of Washington State, and the Center for Ethical Leadership.

The federal government has proposed sweeping changes that could impact funding to nonprofits serving our communities. ๐Ÿ’ฅ

These new rules allow grant freezes, cuts, or cancellations and permit grants to be awarded based on partisan ideology. This could cause vital programs to lose funding mid-year, creating disruptions and gaps in health services.

We signed on to The National Council of Nonprofits' letter opposing the proposal, and encourage your org to join us! โœŠ๐Ÿผ

Voice your opposition by July 13th so nonprofits can continue their work in our communities. ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿพ

The National Council of Nonprofits invites local, state, national, and international organizations to sign a letter opposing sweeping proposed changes to federal grantmaking that would harm nonprofits and communities.
