The Othering and Belonging 2026 Conference is taking place on October 9-10 at the Kentucky International Convention Center. CRB is attending the conference, with our Advocacy Coordinator, Alan Tang, present. The conference is “two days of strategy, story, and shared purpose with organizers, artists, and policymakers working to build inclusive, pluralistic democracies.”

CRB would like to share that Literacy Source's English Conversation Circles have begun at 8 libraries across Seattle! This is a great chance for English learners to practice speaking and listening skills together, with support from incredible instructors.

We released our latest blog post, "Making Reading and Writing Fun." CRB provides insight into how and why gamifying reading and writing can not only make literacy more enjoyable but also make it seem like a fun activity to those who feel it isn't.

CRB's RISE program, with the help of West Seattle High School's Care Team, Medina Abdi, Behavioral Health Coordinator, created a Mindfulness Journal for Mental Health Awareness Month. The journal contains question prompts, a coping skills tracker, and emotion reflections. This journal allows them the opportunity to begin checking in with themselves for emotional growth and self-regulation. The journals were distributed around the school so students can take them as they please, as well as share them with other schools.

Reading scores have dropped to their lowest levels in more than two decades in the US. To combat this, our Education Program instructors teach foundational skills explicitly and systematically, build knowledge and comprehension, and focus on the students falling furthest behind.
