Volunteers from around the greater Schenectady area have come together to create an all-volunteer community bike shop in downtown Schenectady. We have created space where bicycle repairs and maintenance happen in a creative and supportive environment that is available to everyone. Volunteers have built “Electric City Bike Rescue” into a resource for the community that is focused around repairing, and redistributing abandoned or little/not used bicycles that would otherwise be destined for landfills. As we move forward, volunteers at “Electric City Bike Rescue” will be developing programs that will provide participants of all ages a way to learn bicycle repair and maintenance skills, or perhaps acquire a bicycle at little or no cost. The goal is to allow easy access to second hand bicycles that can be used as a healthier play alternative for children, or self-sustained alternative transportation for others.
“Electric City Bike Rescue has been generously donated space to work out of by the “Edison Tech Center” at 136 North Broadway in Schenectady, and are actively seeking new volunteers and donations of bikes, parts, tools, etc., to help us set up shop. If you would like to volunteer or make a donation, please contact us via email at [email protected] , or stop by during open shop on Thursday nights between 5:30 to 8:30.
