A fellow, local little free library steward is doing an amazing thing to promote diversity in the books we are making available for our community. 📚
“Inspired by other little diverse library stewards (), I want to help amplify BIPOC voices and stories. I believe everyone deserves to see themselves represented in the literature they read; I work hard to do that in my own classroom. As a little library steward, most of the books that are donated or put in our little library to share lack any sort of diversity besides what I have shared from my own collection (The Hate U Give, The New Jim Crow, White Fragility etc). I would love my students to be able to stop by a little free library in Schenectady and have the choice to take a book written by an author of color or written about an experience they can connect to. Additionally, spreading BIPOC voices to others in less diverse communities allows people to read, learn, and empathize with others to be part of the solution and create the change we need to see. My goal is to deliver these books to my Glenville community and to fill the 30+ little libraries in our surrounding areas (Schenectady, Niskayuna, Burnt Hills, Saratoga, Clifton Park, Scotia, Rotterdam).”
Here is how you can help!! She has a wonderful amazon wish list of many diverse books! Click the link and help! So far 15 of the listed books have been donated for our community!!
