Schenectady BPW

Schenectady BPW The National Federation of Business and Professional Women's Clubs were founded on July 15, 1919, financed through a federal grant.

The History of BPW-Schenectady

In 1927, a small group of working women met at the Hotel Van Curler (now Schenectady County Community College) to discuss the establishment of a Business and Professional Women's Club in Schenectady. It was their desire to promote women in business and the professions, to foster their educational advancement, and to improve and aid their community. Inspired by Jess

ie Lee Hall and led by Laura Hutchins and her committee of 11, the Schenectady Business and Professional Women's Club was federated on May 11, 1927. There were 51 Charter members, Ella Magill Talbot as the first president. The Schenectady Club was a member of the New York State, National, and International Federations of Business and Professional Women's Clubs and became incorporated in 1936. Taken from the BPW Schenectady 60 year summary.

Last night was such a special evening as we officially inducted our new President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Parliamentarian and Directors for BPW. It was truly an inspiring night filled with positivity, passion, and excitement for the future of our organization.

Our new President, Paula Fidalgo’s, vision is simple but powerful: “to create a true sisterhood built on unity, encouragement, support, and empowerment, without drama, judgment, or division.”

BPW exists to uplift women, advocate for one another, support professional and personal growth, and make a meaningful difference in our community. Every woman has something valuable to bring to the table, and together we are stronger.

When women truly understand the mission, purpose, and teamwork behind this organization, incredible things can happen. We are not just individual members — we are a network of women supporting women through advocacy, education, leadership, community service, and friendship.

If you are a woman looking to connect, grow, give back to the community, build friendships, expand your network, and be part of something positive and empowering, we would love for you to join us.

Together, we can make a difference.
