The mission of United Way of the Coastal Empire is to improve lives by mobilizing the caring power of communities.

From building a ready and resilient workforce to advancing safe and stable housing, quality child care and development, and financial literacy, United Way improves lives by mobilizing the caring power of communities. We are united by a vision of the community in which all people have the opportunity to reach their full potential and families thrive. Our focus is on our commitment to the most vulnerable in our community with an emphasis on basic human needs such as food, shelter, health, and safety in addition to community disaster response. This is the historical core of the United Way of the Coastal Empire’s mission. Beyond our core mission, we want to help all people to reach their full potential. This means providing pathways for Upward Mobility, with a focus on the thousands of our neighbors who have been unable to get ahead, living one paycheck or one crisis away from devastation.

Last school year, Read United Buddies closed their reading gap 5x faster than their classmates, a powerful reminder of what one-on-one support can accomplish.

We’re grateful to the dedicated volunteers who help students build stronger reading skills and greater confidence.
