Books and BBQ? Say less (but read more). Seersucker Live returns on Sept. 24 at Front Porch Improv for an evening of sips, bites, and words worth going out for.

In addition to our author lineup of Sam Sussman, Kionna LeMalle, and Kerry Neville, we will be presenting the Good Literary Citizen award to Savannah poet Marc Thomas. Marc Thomas shares his work and words of encouragement at open mics and reading circles around Savannah, and can be found most Saturday mornings conducting “Haiku in the Park” among the art vendors at the Forsyth Farmers Market. Thomas published his debut book of poetry “Surviving Fragments” with local imprint Monte Ceceri in 2024 followed by subsequent releases through his own Ruminating Poet Press.

Sam Sussman went looking for his father. He found his mother instead.

His USA Today bestselling novel Boy from the North Country follows Evan, caring for his dying mother in a secluded farmhouse as she reveals the truth about her life — including a turbulent romance with Bob Dylan. Sam Sussman first explored the question of his own parentage in a 2021 Harper’s essay on possibly being Dylan’s son, but chose fiction to finish the story: “Novels are truthful: they admit through the form itself that we are not... the masters of our own house.”
