God grant us all serenity and give me the grace the find the balance for this post that is somewhere between writing the single word EPIC to go with the photos or writing an encyclopedia of all the things from just one week at home in Savannah.

Ya know I hear a lot of stories about what people think God is like. I hear everything from “He doesn’t exist at all” to “He’s mad at me” to “I know He loves me even though…” to “God is soooo good to me”.

But this I know for sure because we get to see it with our own eyes: God is near to all and life is beautiful and worth living. It makes no difference whether you are lost in the street, FOUND in the street, living what is seemingly a gloriously full life, winning, losing, or seeking that thing you were meant to do(YOUR DIVE because we all have one)….God is there and HOPE is not in short supply!

Ei-yi-yi….this past week WAS Epic as they all are in their own way but we thank you Savannah for all the places and spaces you let us be part of! We would not trade a single experience or what we see as God at work and Holy moments!

Is it ever okay to cry with a patient? It must be because our faith tells us that to every single thing there is a time and a purpose.

I’m always thankful when a patient allows us to share a little more than we normally do. It was just about sunrise when I arrived at the hospital to tell beautiful Mia- my 27 year old terminal patient “see ya soon”. This goodbye wasn’t because of the reason we expected but rather this see you soon came because after months of heartache, sometimes seemingly hopeless moments, Mia went to an unexpected home to a person who has known her a whole lot longer than we have, loves her deeply, and is ready to carry the banner of the Care she needs. 🥹🙏🏼❤️

I did a post, not too long ago that said I am convinced that Angels cry and that’s true, but I am also convinced that they sing as well.

Although we are not ready for the holidays and it’s not time yet anyway, when I thought of this dear girl that we got to walk beside for a very important season and really all the things we get to see and do, I kept playing the song “ it came up upon a midnight clear” with a section that says:

“And ye, beneath life’s crushing load,
Whose forms are bending low,
Who toil along the climbing way
With painful steps and slow,
Look now! for glad and golden hours
Come swiftly on the wing.
O rest beside the weary road,
And hear the angels sing!”

My goodness, we are busy and thankful to be. If you looked at us on the surface, you might conclude that we are building an empire but that would be false. Now more than ever I know with all of my heart that we are laying an altar with all the beautiful and broken pieces, the highs and the lows, the wins and the losses that God has given us the Grace to hold.

“Peace on the Earth. Goodwill to men from heaven’s, all gracious King….”

Our Hope, prayer, and call to action to all who see this is to make some time in your own life to hear the angels sing!

We love you, Savannah!

I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve said “was that really just one week?” and “oh how I wish we could do multiple check ins for one post”

But with tired feet, sore backs, and full hearts ready to go again the entire team of The Dive Savannah gives glory to the Lord and thanks you for every “just one week” on this epic walk that gives us a chance to live and work, to help people and be helped ourselves, to see miracles of people being healed and willing to step out of homelessness and into LIFE!

Hey y’all! My name is Dawn Carlon and I am a “rising star” at The Dive Savannah. 😊

I’m an Army veteran with a first responder background, a history in food service and now I’ve landed at The Dive.

Sometimes it seems like everyone in Savannah knows Kristy Crill, but I wonder how many people really know her.

Sometimes people ask what it’s like to work for her and I tell them it’s like putting a fire hose in your mouth, turning it on full blast and if you can get through that, you might can keep up with her. 😂

Kristy teaches us ALOT about life and service. For example she wants us to “live the hundred”—not just prepare for a 100 Health Department score, but work with excellence every day. She says things like “All the grace” yet she’s serious about loyalty, honesty, and dependability-she does not entertain foolishness!

I’ve watched her ask a hurting homeless patient, “What happened to you, baby?” I’ve watched her sit with families in crisis. I’ve learned that if there’s a homeless veteran who needs help, just get out of her way because the end of the earth is where she’s headed if she has to. I’ve heard her tell countless homeless people again and again that she would bet all she has that somebody, somewhere, woke up missing them, loving them and wanting them back no matter how long it’s been and even if rehab needs to come before that. I’ve seen her in the streets, do a television interview, visit multiple hospitals, and work a catering event-that’s just one day! Kristy is fiercely loyal to local small businesses and her faith is not fanfare but something we watch her live.

At the dive the mission is important but the catering is just as important because that’s how our staff makes their living and how we do most of our giving! Our clients have given us a 5.0 Google rating-we earn that too, and hiring us is definitely not “taking one for the team.”

Now that I’m almost finished learning operations, part of my job is helping The Dive grow. So please, help me help The Dive

I believe more than ever that angels do in fact, cry for good and bad reasons, and I believe that for whatever reason they are crying, they utter the words. “ holy is the Lord”

To every single thing, there is a season-this we know for sure- while some things end or change other things take shape , are born, or grow! We are thankful to be part of it all!

So with a grateful heart we are leaning into another epic week in this epic walk allowing the photos to tell as much of the tale as they can!

Summer is an unusual time in our already unusual walk as an organization AND family. I say family because I grow increasingly aware that in the beginning and the end, it truly does come down to that core group of people whether by birth or not that God gave each of us to walk with. Days turn into a week and a week turns into a month and here we are almost wrapping up another summer in the hostess city.

Social media gets tricky because most of the work do now can’t be shown due to privacy laws and downright dignity as we face some very heartbreaking situations that often times baffle the mind.

But one thing is for sure and that is that we do not walk alone and we are thankful for that! So we remain grateful for all of our clients who order our food which is our provision, for our first responder relationships I would not trade for anything that could be bought or sold, for the homeless individuals willing to accept help, for the families who say yes, for the Hospital Social Workers who call us for some very special things, for my own family, and above all for the goodness and grace of God!

We love you hostess city!

Today we completely turn our focus, our hearts and our hands to those who carry so much all the time.

We remember the life of and grieve the loss of-Joshua K. Bennett, paramedic.
