Hey y’all! My name is Dawn Carlon and I am a “rising star” at The Dive Savannah. 😊

I’m an Army veteran with a first responder background, a history in food service and now I’ve landed at The Dive.

Sometimes it seems like everyone in Savannah knows Kristy Crill, but I wonder how many people really know her.

Sometimes people ask what it’s like to work for her and I tell them it’s like putting a fire hose in your mouth, turning it on full blast and if you can get through that, you might can keep up with her. 😂

Kristy teaches us ALOT about life and service. For example she wants us to “live the hundred”—not just prepare for a 100 Health Department score, but work with excellence every day. She says things like “All the grace” yet she’s serious about loyalty, honesty, and dependability-she does not entertain foolishness!

I’ve watched her ask a hurting homeless patient, “What happened to you, baby?” I’ve watched her sit with families in crisis. I’ve learned that if there’s a homeless veteran who needs help, just get out of her way because the end of the earth is where she’s headed if she has to. I’ve heard her tell countless homeless people again and again that she would bet all she has that somebody, somewhere, woke up missing them, loving them and wanting them back no matter how long it’s been and even if rehab needs to come before that. I’ve seen her in the streets, do a television interview, visit multiple hospitals, and work a catering event-that’s just one day! Kristy is fiercely loyal to local small businesses and her faith is not fanfare but something we watch her live.

At the dive the mission is important but the catering is just as important because that’s how our staff makes their living and how we do most of our giving! Our clients have given us a 5.0 Google rating-we earn that too, and hiring us is definitely not “taking one for the team.”

Now that I’m almost finished learning operations, part of my job is helping The Dive grow. So please, help me help The Dive

I believe more than ever that angels do in fact, cry for good and bad reasons, and I believe that for whatever reason they are crying, they utter the words. “ holy is the Lord”

To every single thing, there is a season-this we know for sure- while some things end or change other things take shape , are born, or grow! We are thankful to be part of it all!

So with a grateful heart we are leaning into another epic week in this epic walk allowing the photos to tell as much of the tale as they can!

Summer is an unusual time in our already unusual walk as an organization AND family. I say family because I grow increasingly aware that in the beginning and the end, it truly does come down to that core group of people whether by birth or not that God gave each of us to walk with. Days turn into a week and a week turns into a month and here we are almost wrapping up another summer in the hostess city.

Social media gets tricky because most of the work do now can’t be shown due to privacy laws and downright dignity as we face some very heartbreaking situations that often times baffle the mind.

But one thing is for sure and that is that we do not walk alone and we are thankful for that! So we remain grateful for all of our clients who order our food which is our provision, for our first responder relationships I would not trade for anything that could be bought or sold, for the homeless individuals willing to accept help, for the families who say yes, for the Hospital Social Workers who call us for some very special things, for my own family, and above all for the goodness and grace of God!

We love you hostess city!

Today we completely turn our focus, our hearts and our hands to those who carry so much all the time.

We remember the life of and grieve the loss of-Joshua K. Bennett, paramedic.

Time and Proverbs have taught me that above all things we should seek wisdom. Life has taught me that it is wise to always lead with peace-wherever you go and whatever you are doing.

I wonder if anyone has noticed that we haven’t been doing our own social media this summer? I am thankful for help and I have learned so much especially about photo dumps being hard to digest 😂. But fortunately, I think there is grace for me on that because God knows that when I’m posting as the founder, it is not to say look at what all this team can do in a short period of time but rather it is to say “Look what all God can do in this life that we all get to live IF we just choose to LIVE”

So for the millionth and the first time in no particular order, my gratitude list and photo dump that I hope makes a difference in your day and in your life somehow:

- I am thankful for our new partner Origins coffee roasters!
-I am thankful for all the people that Order Catering because that is our provision! But I have to say it did give me the thrill of my life to be able to tell my favorite little human that his Yaya catered for Bluey!
-I am thankful for my family and time spent with them, my Church family and life spent with them.
-I am thankful for Tim at WTOC who was so gracious to Father Craig and I at the interview!
- I am thankful for families that say yes to their homeless loved ones coming home to try , hospital patients we have a chance to try to help, time in the street with our first responder partners, and meetings that promise hope and collaboration!

I could go on all day, but this is too long as it is!

So my point today is to seek peace and LIVE!
