🚌 National School Bus Safety Week: Oct 19-23 🛑

This week, we join districts across the country in focusing on the safety of our students. We are incredibly grateful to our community for always helping to keep our students and staff safe on the roads.

Please be aware of a special enforcement day: Operation Safe Stop is on Wednesday, October 21, 2026. NYS Police will be out on the roads, actively following school buses and monitoring high-priority areas. They are ensuring drivers stop for the flashing red lights to protect children as they board and disembark.

Let’s all do our part. Remember: 🔴 Red Lights Flashing = STOP (from either direction). 🟡 Yellow Lights Flashing = SLOW DOWN; a stop is imminent.

Thank you for partnering with us to keep our kids safe!

Every day, an estimated 50,000 drivers illegally pass stopped school buses, putting children’s lives at risk.

Today, I joined local law enforcement, school administrators, and transportation professionals at Springville-Griffith Institute for Operation Safe Stop to raise awareness about the importance of school bus safety.

One illegal pass is one too many. Saving a few seconds in traffic is never worth risking a child’s life.

Please slow down, pay attention, and stop for school buses. Our kids are counting on us to keep them safe.

🚔 Operation Safe Stop 🚌

Today, our officers are joining law enforcement agencies across New York State for Operation Safe Stop, a statewide education and enforcement effort focused on keeping students safe around school buses.

When a school bus has its red lights flashing, you must come to a complete STOP. It is illegal and dangerous to pass a stopped school bus, whether you are approaching from the front or coming up behind it.

🛑 Slow down and stay alert.
🛑 Watch for school buses making stops.
🛑 Stop for flashing red lights and wait until it is safe to proceed.

An estimated 50,000 motorists illegally pass stopped school buses in New York each day. Every one of those violations puts children at risk.

Let's do our part to protect our community's youngest passengers. Stop for the bus every time. đź’›
