"NYSUT catastrophic major medical insurance" refers to a type of insurance coverage offered by NYSUT (New York State United Teachers) for catastrophic or major medical expenses.

Catastrophic major medical insurance is a type of health insurance that provides coverage for severe and costly medical events. It typically has a high deductible, meaning that you would be responsible for a significant portion of your medical expenses before the insurance coverage kicks in. This type of insurance is designed to protect individuals from financial hardship in the event of a major medical event, such as a serious illness, accident, or hospitalization.

NYSUT, as a union representing teachers and other education professionals in New York State, may offer this type of insurance coverage to its members as part of their benefits package.

Are your union members struggling to navigate the complex process of filing a catastrophic major medical (CMM) insurance claim? Have you had out-of-pocket medical expenses that you believe should be covered by your CMM policy, but aren’t sure how to go about getting reimbursed? You’re not alone! Many families with CMM insurance coverage don’t even submit claims because of the overwhelming and confusing process. But we’re here to help! With our expertise in CMM claims filing and our commitment to HIPAA compliance, we can help remove the burden from you by dealing directly with your CMM insurance company on your behalf. We understand how important it is to get the money you deserve from your policy, and we’re here to advocate for you and your family. So don’t hesitate - share your experience with CMM Advisors Corp and let us help you get the reimbursement you’re entitled to:

Message from our Statewide President on Labor Day.

Labor Day brings optimism for working America

This Labor Day I’d like to share with you my optimism about working America, fueled by my fierce pride in all our working-class heroes. These are the women and men who’ve been on the job non-stop, whether working at home or in their workplace, getting us through these tough times.

I’d like to especially recognize and appreciate all our public service workers, so many of whom were deemed “essential” and kept public services going to support their communities. So many workers providing so many vital services. The truth is, even before this pandemic, our public service workers were always essential. This crisis just brought it into sharper focus.
This Labor Day, I see a bright future for working America.

Workers have literally put their lives on the line to deliver needed services and deserve much more than just pats on the back. They deserve protection during very unsafe times and are realizing that unions can help them gain safer workplaces.
I saw workers fighting back, looking to take back their power collectively. I saw fast-food restaurant workers who walked out, fed up with short staffing and unlivable wages. I saw Amazon warehouse workers trying to form their own union to gain safer working conditions. I saw so many groups of workers, graduate students, museum workers, ‘gig economy’ workers, journalists, tech workers or coffee shop workers, just to name a few, forming their own new unions.

I’m encouraged because public support for labor unions and the union movement are at higher levels across America than in recent history.

And I am hopeful because working-class families are recognizing they’ve been getting a raw deal with the wealthiest Americans not paying their fair share. Not only have the ultra-rich avoided taxes and received huge taxpayer-funded gifts through unchecked corporate welfare, but they’ve rigged the system against working Americans. They’ve kept wage growth stagnant, while making it harder for workers to form unions, because they’re afraid of us taking back our power.

The Labor Movement will never be able to match their ability to buy influence using their billions, but we have another, better way to gain influence. It’s called people power, and that’s what our movement is all about. If we really want to turn our economy around for working families, we simply need to build stronger worker unions. It takes bravery, unity, and persistence. It will be easier if we pass legislation like the PRO Act, which will level the playing field for worker organizing. We will still have to fight for what we deserve, but I am optimistic that we can and will use our people power to make positive gains for all workers in America.

Happy Labor Day!

Mary E. Sullivan, President

Unacceptable! After Governor Cuomo has once again put contractual increases for state employees on hold, CSEA continues our legal fight to hold NYS to the terms of our contract and to demand ALL money owed be paid to union members.

CSEA has just been notified that the contractually-required 2% wage increase that should have been paid to state workers in April, which was due to be paid in October after being twice delayed, is again on hold for another three months.

While we understand the state is trying to prevent furloughs or layoffs, and we don’t want to see any state workers put out of work, the state has a legal obligation to comply with the terms of our contract and honor the commitment they made to our hard-working state employees who have helped get us through this time of crisis.

In the Spring, CSEA filed a class-action grievance with the Governor’s Office of Employee Relations, and we continue to pursue this grievance, demanding the contractual increases with full retroactivity. CSEA fully expects to win this grievance and will pursue the matter through arbitration and the courts if necessary, but it will take time to move through the legal process.

In the meantime, CSEA has been working with the state and our elected leaders at all levels to continue to push for federal stimulus funding to relieve the state’s massive budget deficit caused by the pandemic, to hasten the state’s ability to pay members what they are owed.

Call Congresswoman Stefanik NOW!

The US Senate has released its version of the next COVID-19 response legislation and it is woefully inadequate; it includes ZERO in new funding for state and local governments!

We need you to pick up the phone and remind Congresswoman Stefanik of the commitment she made to fight for this funding. It’s time for her to step up and fight for New Yorkers and not partisan politics. Urge her to convince Senate GOP leadership of the importance of this funding - your job may depend on it! Tweets and pleasantries are no longer enough; action is needed and it's needed now.
