Sarasota Concert Association

Sarasota Concert Association Sarasota’s leading presenter of classical music concerts featuring two distinctive series.

Since 1938, the Sarasota Concert Association has brought the world's most renowned classical musicians to our region, including such superstars as Rudolf Serkin, Yehudi Menuhin, Isaac Stern, Leontyne Price, Lang Lang, Emanuel Ax, and Joshua Bell. The Sarasota Concert Association is a not-for-profit organization that seeks to foster an appreciation for the musical arts by sponsoring professional pr

It provides outreach to all members of the regional community by offering a series of free concerts, Music Matinees, held from November through April every year.

Before the musical part of our journey came to an end, we heard two phenomenal concerts in Dresden: the Rotterdam Philharmonic with Lahav Shani conducting Brahms Symphony No. 2 and pianist Alexander Malofeev (who performed on our recent Great Performers Series) joining the Orchestra in Grieg’s Piano Concerto. And tonight, pianist Seong-Jin Cho performed a recital of works by Bach, Schoenberg, Schumann and Grieg. Both were brilliant and memorable concerts at the Kulturpalast.

Hearing the Bach Minor Mass in Leipzig’s St. Thomaskirche where Bach was Music Director from 1723 until his death in 1750 ( and he is buried in the church) has been a highlight of the trip!

In the last few days, the participants on our Germany music trip have experienced three important composer houses, with music demonstrations or performances in each - Handel’s home in Halle; Schumann’s home in Leipzig with a private piano recital, and Mendelssohn’s home in Leipzig with a special performance by violinist Michael Barenboim and his wife Natalia on piano.

Last night was a great start to our musical journey in Germany. You can’t beat hearing the Berlin Philharmonic in its own hall. Semyon Bychkov conducted the orchestra in Shostakovich 5 and pianist Vikingur Olafsson joined for Beethoven’s Emperor Concerto. Standing ovations are not as easily given in Europe as they are in the U.S. but the cheers and applause are no less enthusiastic.

The Sarasota Concert Association’s classical music trip to Germany has officially begun! Despite tales of flight delays, cancellations, hour-long waits at customs and lost luggage, our welcome dinner in Berlin was a great time for everyone to meet each other. Today was a full day of walking all around the major sights, lunch at the Reichstag (in the dining room where the Parliamentarians eat), and a few hours in the Neues Museum featuring Egyptian art and antiquities, including the famous Nefertiti. Tomorrow we hear the Berlin Philharmonic!

There is still time - your gift, matched up to $100, ends today at noon! Let your generosity go twice. We are grateful to Community Foundation of Sarasota County and The Patterson Foundation for this incredible day of giving! ♥ https://bit.ly/SCA26givingchallenge

Today is the day! At noon, the 2026 Giving Challenge officially begins — and for the next 24 hours, our community has a remarkable opportunity to come together in support of the nonprofit organizations that make Charlotte, DeSoto, Manatee, and Sarasota counties such a special place to live, work, and grow.

Nearly 750 nonprofit organizations across our four-county region are participating this year, each with a profile on The Giving Partner, an online directory that helps donors make informed decisions by sharing each organization's mission, leadership, financials, and commitment to transparency.

The Patterson Foundation is strengthening giving during the 2026 Giving Challenge with a 1:1 match on all unique donations between $25 and $100 per donor, per nonprofit organization — with no limit on the number of matches an organization can receive. That means every dollar you give, up to $100 per organization, will be doubled.
