On National Cat Day, we thought you would like to see "Guy" pictured with his main squeeze, Selby Foundation Grants Manager Elizabeth Power. Together with her husband Terry, Elizabeth spends a lot of time showing this handsome creature that he is an important part of the management team for their home.

Thank you to every organization and person participating in our Regional Scholarship Provider Network. Much of today’s conversation was focused on federal and state changes that impact college students. Sometimes changes have unintended consequences that impact people and their ability to access opportunity. And sometimes the changes are focused on vulnerable groups and require us to think differently to make sure they are served.

The right technology can mean everything when it comes to being more effective and efficient, giving nonprofit staff and volunteers more time to spend doing impactful work with the people they serve. Technology is included in our capital grant opportunities, and we love to learn how organizations in our region are using it to do good.

The term “rewilding” has a nice ring to it! We’re grateful for the work of Big Waters Land Trust and Sarasota Audubon Society in bringing back habitat to the Quad Parcels that is good for birds, wildlife, and people. What a celebratory morning it was on Saturday, with tours, information, and guided walks! The Selbys would be so pleased to know that $100,000 was invested in new plantings that will continue growing, forming a lush landscape rich in diversity.

People who live in our region cross county lines to work, play, and access enriching and life-saving services. More than 1/3 of our current traditional grant applicants offer their programs in at least two counties.

"Well fancy meeting you in San Antonio!" Selby Foundation Scholarship Manager Earl Young discovered a familiar face at the National Scholarship Provider Association's Annual Conference. It's fun to see him together with Kiarra Womack, now Scholar Selection and Experience Coordinator at the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation in Atlanta!

Some of the nonprofit applicants in our current grant cycle do not have board term limits. This means there is no formal mechanism to ensure leaders who have shared their perspectives for years move off the board, allowing space for new board members to take their places.

Sometimes board term limits are hard when organizations are in a small community, or when the organization is transitioning from one that is founder-led to a more robust structure.
