Jovita Idár was a Mexican-American journalist, educator, and civil rights activist.
Through La Crónica, Idár spoke out against racism and advocated for Mexican-American and women’s rights.
When Texas Rangers came to shut down the newspaper, Idár stood between them and the door and refused to back down.
Idár believed educating women could transform families and communities.
Her courage and advocacy continue to inspire
generations of women and Mexican-American activists.
Contigo honors Jovita Idár and her fight for education, equality, and justice.
