Our Mission Statement:

To promote responsible pet ownership through humane education, and to provide shelter and care to domestic companion animals until a loving, responsible home can be found, or lost pets are reunited with their guardians. At Carolina Animal Rescue and Adoption (CARA) we are dedicated to finding permanent and loving families for the homeless dogs and cats of North Carolina. CA

RA began rescuing homeless animals from across N.C. in April 2003, and we have placed countless animals in wonderful homes across the country. CARA is dedicated to providing the best service possible to the animals in our care and the families who adopt from us. We take pride in adopting healthy animals and go to great lengths to pair each pet with the perfect family. CARA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, volunteer organization that operates on individual and corporate donations and fundraising proceeds. We do not receive any funding from government agencies or national animal welfare agencies. We are very fortunate to have a caring and dedicated team of volunteers, board members, and supporters. We are a legitimate animal rescue that only adopts out healthy animals and is fully licensed by the North Carolina Department of Agriculture.

His siblings all found homes. Jack is still waiting. 💔

He arrived at our rescue last Fall in the back of an old pickup truck alongside 3 siblings and rusty junk. We were told their mother had been poisoned and that the other puppies had not survived. Jack and his siblings were the lucky ones.

Since then, all of his siblings have found homes.

Jack is still waiting. 😭

And that's hard to understand because he is such an incredible dog. He is friendly, affectionate, loves people, loves playing fetch, enjoys hiking and outdoor adventures, and is both house trained and crate trained. He knows Sit, Place, Shake, Down, Leave It, Drop It, and Look At Me.

At just 1 year old and 36 lbs, Jack is the perfect size and the perfect age. He's neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccines. He would do best as the only animal in the home.

Lately, we're starting to see signs that shelter life is wearing on him. We spend as much time as we can giving him love and comfort, but what Jack truly needs is a family of his own.

At about 9–10 weeks old, Lee Lee is a feisty, frisky little girl with a big personality packed into a tiny kitten body. Found near Lee Senior High School (which is how she got her name), she's been keeping her foster family entertained ever since they kindly took her in due to the shelter environment stressing her out.

Lee Lee loves playing with her foster brothers, chasing an endless supply of cat toys, and climbing on cat trees so she can survey her kingdom. 👑🐱

When she's not busy zooming around, she takes her afternoon nap seriously before recharging for another evening of adventures. While she's not much of a lap kitten right now, she's a confident, independent little girl who likes to do things on her own terms.

Because she's so playful and enjoys the company of other cats, Lee Lee would likely do best in a home with a feline friend to play and explore with.

She's microchipped, up to date on vaccines, and ready to find a family that appreciates her fun-loving spirit.

Just a few photos weren’t enough… we had to post a whole bunch because this boy is SO HANDSOME! Meet Barndoor (lovingly named after a dog we have met recently). ❤️

This sweet boy is amazing. He has a perfect personality, is so sweet, and loves people and dogs! 🐶

Barndoor is 3-4 years old. He was found as a stray and not reclaimed. He is ready for a home where he can spend his days cuddling with his favorite humans.

He’s a very good boy who knows how to sit and will do so very nicely for a tasty treat! 😋

How has this handsome boy been waiting for a home for over a year? 🥺

Just look at him. Between those striking eyes, his model-worthy poses, and his sweet personality, Beso should have been scooped up long ago.

Beso's story began when he arrived at a local vet office in a box as a tiny newborn kitten. At just 1 day old, his incredible foster mom took him home and bottle-fed him around the clock, helping him grow into the happy, healthy cat he is today. 💛

Now all grown up, Beso is still searching for the forever family he's never had.

This sweet boy LOVES dogs, is wonderful with kids, and is equal parts playful and snuggly. His hobbies include chasing crinkly toys around the house, bird-watching from the window, or convincing people to share his favorite snack... marshmallows. ☁️😂

Beso is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccines. He would do best as the only cat in the home, where he can soak up all the love and attention for himself.

After more than a year of waiting, we'd love nothing more than to see Beso finally find the family he's been dreaming of.

Jellyfish (tan female), Star Fish (white female), and Sharkie (male) are here to make your day a whole lot brighter!

Just look at these precious faces and their adorable under-the-sea bandanas. We honestly can't decide what's cuter—Sharkie's shark bandana, Star Fish's beachy style, or Jellyfish's sweet puppy dog eyes. 💙

These little sea creatures are as sweet as they are adorable. They're playful, snuggly, full of puppy curiosity, and always ready for cuddles. Whether they're exploring, playing, or piling up together for a nap, they’re guaranteed to melt your heart. (Check out the video of them snuggling together in the comments.) 🥹

A few weeks ago, a Good Samaritan found them abandoned alongside the road and brought them to safety. Now they’re dreaming about the forever families that will give them the happy ending they deserve.

They are microchipped, up to date on vaccines, and will be ready to head home on or after June 10th.

Tiny paws, big personalities, and endless cuddles. 🥹🐾

Temaki, the handsome medium-haired tuxedo boy, and Maki, the beautiful brown tabby girl, are 10 weeks old and ready to find their forever homes!

These two are the perfect combination of playful, sweet, and snuggly. One minute they're zooming around chasing toys, and the next they're curled up for a cozy nap. They have the kind of loving personalities that make it impossible not to fall in love.

Temaki and Maki are microchipped, up to date on vaccines, and ready to bring endless smiles, purrs, and kitten antics to their lucky families. 💕

I am Bodaway (it means fire starter) but you can just call me Bodi! Check out my before and after!

You might recognize me from the local shelter here in Sanford. I was living in one of the fire training buildings at CCCC, and then brought into the shelter. That might explain the color change to my coat!😮

The rescue can already tell I am a total GEM! I am sweet, sort of quiet/shy but ohhhh so snuggly.

I will be available for adoption after my neuter and as long as I have a good bill of health at the vet this week. Hoping my lungs sounds great and I can go on to search for a family to call my own!

Guess what? I made it out of surgery and am recovering back at the rescue! Humans are relieved!!!

I had many thick crystals in my urine so I am feeling better already! So painful!! Ouch.

The total cost for the rescue is 2,000 (we’ve raised 441 so far) any help is appreciated !!!
