Tonight, members of the Sanford-Springvale Rotary Club volunteered at the concession stand for the Sanford Mainers baseball game. Two or three times each summer, we give back to the community by serving up hot dogs, pizza slices, soft drinks and even Strawberry shortcake to the loyal fans. A great way for all to spend an affordable and enjoyable night with friends and family. Tonight's crew included Bob Myott, Heather Beaupre, Jonathan Stimmel and myself.

Yesterday’s Rotary meeting gave us a powerful look at Sanford’s response to homelessness and we’re grateful to Diane Small, Executive Director at the Sanford Housing Authority, and Police Chief, Eric Small, for sharing their time and expertise. Their presentation walked us through the real, coordinated work happening across our community: housing, public safety, healthcare, and recovery partners all working together through the “Home for Good” approach.

The numbers were striking - dozens of individuals connected to shelter, treatment, and housing solutions right here in Sanford, thanks to organizations like the City of Sanford, Sanford Maine Police Department, Sanford Housing Authority, and local healthcare and recovery partners.

Thank you both for helping our club better understand this issue and the people working hard to address it. 💙

A big thank you to Doug Bibber from Bibber’s Autumn Green for joining us this morning at Sanford-Springvale Rotary! Doug shared so many thoughtful and unique options for celebrating a loved one’s life after they pass away — giving us all a lot to think about when it comes to honoring memories in meaningful ways. Did you know they can make jewelry from a loved one’s fingerprints?

Thanks for taking the time to speak with us, Doug! 💛

My most recent opportunity to present a scholarship to a deserving student, from the Rotary Club of Sanford-Springvale. Today, I was pleased to be invited to attend Senior Day at the Robert Traip Academy in Kittery. The student also was enrolled at Sanford Regional Technical Center (SRTC) and plans a career in law enforcement or possibly as a game warden. LILLIAN PRESTON is well deserving and we all wish her and the rest of the Class of 2026 the very best.

Another opportunity to participate in a Senior Awards event - this time at Wells High School, on Thursday evening. I was pleased to represent our Rotary Club to honor Abraham Medrano - an outstanding student, one who is well-grounded, involved in sports, band, but moreover in community activities. We were pleased to award him a $2,000 scholarship! Thanks to the Wells High School community for including Sanford-Springvale Rotary Club in your event!

A wonderful morning!

This morning, many wonderful individuals came together to share in a special community service project: our second annual neighborhood trash cleanup!

St. Thomas students, families, and faculty, Rotarians, SHS Interact Club members, Trails Committee members, a city councilor, and friends from the community collected bags of trash from around the school campus, around St. Thérèse of Lisieux Parish, Sanford, and up and down the entire span of North Avenue, Brook Street, June Street, and other surrounding neighborhoods.

We hope our small act of kindness will create a ripple effect in our community, inspiring others to do what they can to make a difference.

Thank you to all who joined us this morning!
