In Bulacan and Naic, our kitchens were busy preparing warm, nourishing meals for the children and families in the community. From preparing the food to serving each meal, it was another day of making sure everyone had something nutritious to enjoy.

For World Lake Day, our Brain Booster kids designed their own paper lakes and fish—while learning how to keep our rivers clean. Beyond art, they learned friendship, teamwork, and confidence.

As 10-year-old Iyah shared, Brain Booster gave her new friends and new skills she uses every day.

We visited two locations and shared a warm meal with 500 individuals and families who are currently unhoused. We also spent time with the children through Istorya Session, where they shared stories and expressed themselves through arts and crafts.

Project Pearls: 16 years of Lessons Learned

Lesson #4: You Don’t Get to Pick Our Story, We Do

I was born in Caloocan as a stubborn Ta**us — year of the dragon. Orphaned and independent at early age. Schooled in Tondo.

Curly hair. Dark skin. Big eyes. The boys thought that was something to laugh at. Mean people thought I don't deserve to exist being an illegitimate child. I proved them otherwise.

That wasn’t anger. That was a kid drawing a line in the dirt. Nobody gets to decide what I’m worth. I decide.

Full circle - now back in Caloocan and Tondo. Sixteen years later, it’s the same lesson — just with higher stakes and a lot more kids counting on me to hold the line.

Every children in PEARLS carries a version of that same fight. The ones who get laughed at. The ones written off before they’ve had a chance to write their own name. I see them because I was them.
