TWO WINNERS. TWO EXCEPTIONAL STORIES. ONE IMPORTANT CORRECTION.

The San Diego Press Club is correcting the record regarding our 2026 Excellence in Journalism Awards Best of Show Podcast honors.
Following a review of the official judging results, we discovered that TWO journalists had been selected for Best of Show recognition. Unfortunately, an administrative oversight resulted in only one winner being announced, and that winner was mistakenly credited with the other journalist’s work.
To be clear, BOTH journalists earned their awards. The error was ours, not theirs.

🏆 Katie Hyson | KPBS
“One of Their Own”

🏆 Phil Farrar | KOGO NewsRadio
“North Park: Historic to Hip”
Series

We sincerely apologize to Katie, Phil, KPBS, and KOGO NewsRadio.
As an organization that celebrates journalistic excellence, we recognize that accuracy, fairness, and accountability are not just principles we honor. They are standards we must uphold ourselves.
We fell short, and we take full responsibility.

Our official records have been corrected, and we are reviewing our verification procedures to prevent similar errors.

Most importantly, we want to give BOTH journalists the recognition they rightfully earned.

👏 Congratulations, Katie and Phil! Your outstanding storytelling deserves to be celebrated.

Great journalism deserves great recognition. And when we get something wrong, we correct the record.
