June is designated Rotary Fellowships Month to recognize the importance of international fellowship and goodwill among Rotarians with similar recreational and vocational interests, promote increased participation in fellowships, and increase understanding of this program.

“Fellowship is wonderful; it illuminates life’s pathway, spreads good cheer, and is worth high price.” Rotary Founder, Paul Harris

What are the benefits for Rotarians in joining the Rotary Fellowships?

Fellowship provides opportunities for Rotarians to make lasting friendships outside their own Club, District or country. Fellowships contribute to the advancement of world understanding and peace. Also, Fellowships serve as an incentive for attracting new members to Rotary and retaining our existing members. Indeed, Rotary Fellowship, together with the Rotarian Action Groups, serve as an effective tool in promoting membership development and should be actively promoted in our Districts.

There are many Fellowships that would be of interest to our members, and they are detailed on http://www.rotary.org/fellowships.

May is Rotary’s Youth Service Month! Throughout the month, Rotarians, Rotaractors, and younger members of the Rotary family, including Interactors, RYLA and Rotary Youth Exchange participants, celebrate the service, leadership development, connections, and FUN of Rotary’s programs for young leaders.

Every year, over 350,000 young leaders participate in Rotary’s youth programs, Interact, Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA), and Rotary Youth Exchange. Rotary’s Youth Service Month is an opportunity to promote our young leaders’ local and global impacts and the Rotary and Rotaract clubs that make these programs possible.

April is Environment Month, highlighting Rotary's commitment to supporting the environment, strengthening the conservation of natural resources, and advancing ecological sustainability. As the 7th area of focus, Rotary encourages clubs to engage in projects addressing climate change, reducing pollution, and supporting Earth Day on April 22nd.

Key aspects of the April Environment focus include:

Environmental Sustainability: Initiatives to protect and restore natural resources, such as promoting sustainable agriculture and reducing plastic pollution.

Environmental Sustainability Rotary Action Group (ESRAG): Provides resources and expertise for clubs planning environmental projects
Action-Oriented Projects: Many clubs initiate cleanups, sustainability education, or conservation efforts to mark Earth Day, April 22.

Focus Areas: Projects often align with fostering harmony between communities and the environment.

March is designated as Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) Month. The theme highlights one of Rotary’s seven core Areas of Focus, emphasizing the global need for safe water, proper sanitation, and hygiene education to reduce diseases and improve living standards. March serves as a time for Rotary members to emphasize that access to clean water is a basic human right and essential for health and prosperity.

Key Focus: Promoting sustainable, long-term water and sanitation infrastructure, such as building wells and installing rain harvesting systems.

Significance: March 22nd is World Water Day, a key date during this month for global awareness.

Impact: Rotary projects in March often address the needs of over 750 million people lacking safe water and 2.5 billion lacking adequate sanitation.

Actionable Items: Clubs often use this month to initiate grants, conduct water sanitation projects, or educate communities on hygiene practices.

Black History Month, involves commemorating African American achievements, culture, and history through educational events, museum visits, supporting Black businesses, reading Black authors, watching films by Black creators, and honoring leaders and change-makers, with celebrations extending beyond the month to a year-round commitment to equity, as seen in community programs and national commemorations.

Ways to Celebrate

Education & Awareness: Attend local events, lectures, or virtual panels from organizations like the National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC) or the Library of Congress.

Support Black Businesses: Consciously buy from Black-owned businesses in your community.

Explore Culture: Read books by Black authors, watch films by Black creators, and learn about Black music history.

Visit Museums: Explore Black history museums or virtual exhibits, such as those highlighted by the National Park Service.

Community & Family: Organize diversity events, mentor youth, cook culturally inspired meals, or volunteer with Black-led nonprofits.

Today more than 70 million people are displaced as a result of conflict, violence, persecution and human rights violations, half of them are children.

February is Peace and Conflict Prevention/Resolution Month.

Promoting peace is one of the seven areas of focus for Rotary, as Rotarians work to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace.

Today, more than 117 million people are displaced because of conflict, violence, persecution, and human rights violations—half of them children. We refuse to accept conflict as a way of life. Rotary projects provide training that fosters understanding and equips communities with the skills needed to prevent and resolve conflict.

Rotary creates environments where peace can happen. When we work to build peace in our communities, that change can have a global impact. Through service projects and by supporting peace fellowships and scholarships, our members take action to address the underlying causes of conflict, including poverty, discrimination, ethnic tension, lack of access to education, and the unequal distribution of resources.

Rotary aims to promote goodwill and better friendship by encouraging dialogue, fostering mutual respect, and taking meaningful action to prevent and resolve conflict at every level.
