San Diego ranks as the 5th most polluted place in the country for year-round particle pollution, and last week, our local leaders chose to do nothing about it.

Last week, the San Diego County Air Pollution Control District (APCD) voted to block an Indirect Source Rule that would have held warehouses, freight facilities, and diesel truck operations accountable for the toxic air they pump into our communities. The majority of the governing board voted against even starting the rulemaking process.

It’s not a policy disagreement; it’s a failure of leadership. Families in portside and border communities breathe this air every day, and children are growing up next to diesel corridors and mega-warehouses with no relief in sight. The federal government is rolling back protections, and now local officials are following suit.

San Diego deserves leaders willing to act. We will not stop pushing for clean air and environmental justice for every community in this region. Read our full press release and learn how you can join us to fight for clean air in San Diego: http://bit.ly/apcd-press

Today, San Diego’s regional group showed up for lobby day!

Power in Nature is a statewide coalition of more than 300 organizations advancing the 30x30 initiative- to protect 30% of all lands and coastal waters by the year 2030.

30x30 is critical for: protecting biodiversity, climate resilience, and ensuring public access for all.

San Diego is one of the most biodiverse hotspots in the entire world! We must act now to protect San Diego for future generations.

Our beautiful city and its residents need protection from the harmful pollution emitted by warehouses and diesel trucks. In portside neighborhoods, diesel emissions account for 84% of the cancer risk from air pollution, and 79% in border cities. In communities like Barrio Logan, asthma emergency room visits are more than double the county average, and asthma hospitalization rates are among the highest in the state.

🚨 WE NEED YOUR HELP! 🚨

This Thursday, May 14th, the San Diego Air Pollution Control District will vote on whether to move forward with an Indirect Source Rule, or ISR. This vote comes at a critical moment as federal clean air protections are being weakened and long-standing pollution safeguards are being rolled back or left uncertain. Visit bit.ly/apcd-vote to submit a comment and urge the Air Pollution Control District to pass an ISR.

To learn more about why our communities need an ISR, read the opinion piece by Jose Franco Garcia, Executive Director of the Environmental Health Coalition, in the San Diego Union-Tribune: bit.ly/toxic-air-sd

border wall construction is blocking the Peninuslar big horn sheep migration in Jacumba? Razor wire is cutting off their only access to water, and it could start affecting these animals as soon as this summer. 🐏

Michael King, Sierra Club San Diego's Conservation Organizer, visited the Jacumba wilderness and shares his experience through one of the most critical corridors for this endangered species.

Offshore drilling threatens California’s critical coastal ecosystems, marine life, and the communities and industries that depend on a healthy ocean. It’s not a matter of *if* there’s an oil spill, it’s *when* the spill will occur.

San Diego Sierra Club is proud to stand with to launch a coordinated, multi-platform campaign opposing offshore drilling along the California coast. Join us today at 1pm for a press conference, unveiling billboards and other public media outreach to say NO to offshore drilling.
